Flora Celebrates… Litha, Summer Solstice, Midsummer (Day 2)

Hello My Lovelies,

This is the second post in my Litha/Summer Solstice/Midsummer series. For the coming week, I will be sharing some songs, books and snippets of wisdom appropriate for this joyful time of year.

I can’t do a Litha/Summer Solstice/Midsummer theme without mentioning the festivals around Stonehenge. The summer gathering is not one that I attend, preferring the quieter winter celebration instead but English Heritage open up the stones and allow thousands of people to get up and personal to this ancient site.

Stonehenge is an ancient prehistoric world heritage site which has been a place of worship and celebration at the time of Summer Solstice for thousands of years.

Please note that last normal day admissions to Stonehenge is on Wednesday 20 June at 13:00 and the site will close at 15:00 in preparation for Summer Solstice Managed Open Access. Stonehenge is closed on Thursday 21 June and will re-open at 09:00 on Friday 22nd June.

English Heritage is pleased to provide free Managed Open Access to Stonehenge for Summer Solstice. We ask that if you are planning to join us for this peaceful and special occasion that you read the Conditions of Entry and the information provided on the following pages before deciding whether to come.

Or if you prefer something a bit more organised, why not try The Solstice Festival who are celebrating their 10th year!

A RELAXED MUSIC FESTIVAL

A rare, close up and personal, small but perfectly formed music festival near Stonehenge running from 18th – 21st June 2018. It’s our 10th year and the right place for those who like to hear great bands in a relaxed, informal setting. We’re folk flavoured but open to anything new that we like. Whether King Cassady are strumming in a nearby tent or the Roving Crows are making us want to get up and move, we have a great line up every year, from midday to late evening.

SOLSTICE CELEBRATION

We are unique. Our site places you near Stonehenge in the middle of the Salisbury Plain landscape in the truly special ancient atmosphere of this area. On the last night of the Festival we provide a private bus service, included with your ticket, which takes you into the Stonehenge World Heritage Site run by English Heritage, for the Stonehenge Summer Solstice Celebrations. You can walk among the stones themselves on this special evening.

YOGA, FRIENDSHIP & HEALING

Because we are small, we are friendly. Year after year people return to meet up and enjoy friendships formed around our large communal fire. Free yoga workshops every morning, our reiki healing tent, wonderful catering with excellent options for all including vegan diets and a locally run bar provide a backdrop to the festival. There are many other things to do and interesting areas to explore during your four days.

I hope you enjoy my week of Litha and Midsummer posts. If you’d like to read any of them again, just search the tag #Litha at the bottom of the page or click on the Sabbats category.

Whatever you are up to, I hope you all have a fantastic June!
