They must have talked for hours in the years they had known each other, had shared secrets and laughs about all manner of things, but she still had to drag her courage up from her toes whenever she wanted to speak with him.

So what’s this book about?
Fallen Angel is the second book (approx 145 pages) in Ms Heaton’s contemporary paranormal romance series – Her Angel: Bound Warriors – and is set in London as well as one of Europe’s most romantic cities, Paris.
This book is a revised, extremely extended and re-released version of the novella Her Fallen Angel and is now a story with even more angel goodness (or wickedness if you prefer).
If you’ve read any of my reviews before, you’ll know that I don’t post spoilers or reveal plot twists in my book reviews, so here’s what the official blurb has to say about the story:
Cast out of Heaven for a crime he didn’t commit, Lukas has spent three years searching for a way to prove his innocence and slowly falling for a beautiful mortal female. When things take a turn for the worse, he seeks solace in the bottom of a bottle and ends up finding it in Annelie’s arms. But one moment of Heaven becomes one of sheer Hell when his wings make an unexpected appearance. Now, he’s in danger of losing not only his duty, but the woman he loves.
Annelie fell for Lukas the moment he walked into her bar and she fell hard. The tall, sensual blond sets her heart on fire with his otherworldly green eyes and wicked smile, so when one kiss leads to something more, seizing her chance and Lukas with both hands seems like a great idea… until morning rolls around and she discovers he’s not the man she thought he was—he’s an angel.
Lukas will stop at nothing to prove both his innocence and his love for Annelie, but when he discovers who framed him and she ends up caught in the crossfire, will he be strong enough to protect her? And can Annelie vanquish her doubts and fears to claim the heart of her fallen angel?
You don’t need to have read any of the previous books in the Her Angel: Bound Warriors series to enjoy Warrior Angel as Ms Heaton weaves any relevant information about the world and past adventures that the reader needs into this story. I can also confirm that the romance aspect of this tale is concluded to my satisfaction by the end of the book in Ms Heaton’s signature Happy Ever After style.

So, what did I like about it?
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a big fan of Ms Heaton’s writing style; it’s the way she creates a believable paranormal world and then packs it with multifaceted characters – where even the supernatural have very real human foibles – and weaves their stories around an engaging background arc that just draws me in and keeps me reading.
I really liked that we join Annelie three years after Lukas entered her life as a patron of her pub. I don’t like reading insta-love/lust stories, I can’t connect to stories like that, but this relationship has been blossoming for three years and it already felt comfortable and ready for the next step.
Which leads me on beautifully to one of the reasons why I love Ms Heaton’s books so much – the sex; she makes the most explicit sexual scenes very romantic (I think it takes a very talented writer to accomplish this), the erotic interludes in this story are balanced beautifully with heartfelt imagery and poignant internal dialogue from our main romantic pair; it’s these tender insights into Lukas and Annelie’s inner fears, their doubts and their emotional vulnerability that captivated my heart.
This story was a page turner for me and I really enjoyed reading it. I loved the build-up of sexual anticipation and I got caught up with their romantic shenanigans (who wouldn’t *blush*) but I also loved the edge-of-your-seat fight scene that got my adrenaline pumping. I shed a tear or two during the tender and sad moments and I found myself chuckling out loud at the humour and banter. Fallen Angel had me gripped from the first page to the last and I couldn’t stop reading!
So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?
Well, I obviously enjoyed the book as I rated it 5 stars, but I feel that I should mention a couple of things.
Firstly, my religious beliefs and faith meant that I found it tricky to relate to Annelie’s dilemma about “loving an Angel” and “going to Hell” for her feelings for Lukas or getting him in trouble with Heaven. The whole Angel fantasy romance is relatively new to me and not really something that I personally fantasize about, although reading this series, I’m getting there. 😉
Secondly, this is the second book in a four book series, and as such, there is a continuing background mystery story involving Rook, and old angel comrade of Lukas and Apollyon’s, and Rook’s lady love, Isadora that is left to continue in subsequent books. However, for those of you like me who HATE huge cliff-hangers, rest assured, Ms Heaton doesn’t leave us hanging. Lukas’ good name is restored and the romance between him and Annelie is all happily concluded in Ms Heaton’s signature style.
So, basically what I’m saying is…
I really loved this paranormal romance tale. It had everything that I look for in a gripping read; it made me smile, cry and feel all warm & fuzzy inside with well written erotic thrills, heart pumping fight scenes and tons of romantic gestures added to the mix.
As with all of Ms Heaton’s books, due to the graphic violence and sexual content – it’s definitely steamy – I would recommend this book to adults who are not offended by content of this nature and enjoy reading stories about conspiracies and finding the truth in a pack of lies but Fallen Angel is definitely a must read for those of you, like me, who adore tales about soul saving love with oodles of fire and passion.
