May’s Monthly Round Up plus The Sunday Post @ Flora’s Musings…

Good morning my lovelies,

Sundays are the perfect day for me to sit back and catch up on life – both on and off the blog – so last month, I decided to write a monthly round up post. I linked up to The Sunday Post which is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer (see rules here: Sunday Post Meme) and decided to do the same for May.

The Sunday Post is a chance for us to share news, to recap the past week on our blogs and showcase books and things we have received. To share with you what is coming up on our blogs for the week ahead and don’t forget, this meme is also the perfect opportunity to check out other bloggers and read some great blogs. So, once you’ve read my post, why don’t you hop along to some of the other amazing blogs taking part in this week’s The Sunday Post.

So what have I been up to this month?

Here in the UK May has two official Bank Holidays – the one at the beginning of the month is May Day, where we celebrate with dancing, drinking and being outdoors and can trace it’s traditions to before Christianity came to our shores. The second bank holiday is at the end of the month started as the Christian festival of Whitsun (marking Pentecost, the seventh Sunday after Easter, and the descent of the Holy Spirit upon Christ’s disciples) but was renamed to the more secular title of Late Spring Bank Holiday a number of decades ago. It doesn’t matter what these extra days off are called, it’s always nice to have the time to spend these precious moments with family and catch up with friends – assuming you’re not stuck in Bank Holiday traffic jams! Oh, and read a few books! Lol! 😉

I’ve been browsing the blogosphere this month and I’ve found some more lovely new (to me) blogs to follow. It’s keeping me busy, visiting my fellow bloggers’ sites and once again, I was worried that I was spending more time on other blogs than I was on my own. Lol! However, writing this post has set my mind at ease – I haven’t abandoned you, dear followers, I actually published quite a few posts this month…

I’ve been planning what I want to share with you next month, some of my ideas have come to fruition and I’ve added a few posts to my schedule already – organised, eh?! Fingers crossed it’ll last. 😉

  • New Book Releases
  • Author interviews and Spotlight posts
  • A final update on my favourite May reading challenge
  • More weekly Friday Finds, Top 5 Tuesdays posts and Book Blogger Hop questions answered
  • and of course, lots of book reviews!

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I take part in the Goodreads Annual Reading Challenge and have also joined in with challenges from the book groups I belong to. I thought that I’d use this post to update you on my progress to date in all the challenges that I’m (foolishly) taking part in…

Team Challenges:
Vampire Wars Team Spike I’m enjoying being on Team Spike with Alison (team captain), Stacey and Elaine. Vampire Wars is a reading challenge where each book we read, earns our team points (drops of blood). Part of the challenge is about book covers and for the last couple of months, I’ve been trawling through the freebie books on Amazon to find suitable covers. Lol! So last week, I bit the bullet and signed up to Kindle Unlimited! Lol! Lots of my favourite authors already list their books, so it should pay for itself! Anyway, any recommendations gratefully accepted; I’m on the lookout for Wolf, Bow & Arrow, Knife, Sword, Wand, Broom, Gun or Fire.

Monthly Challenges: May
Cosplay Cuties
Fated Mates
May Monthly Challenge
Clean Up Your Coffin – April 16th to May 15th
Word Hunter Aries: 21 April – 19 May

6 Monthly Challenges:
Poker Face – 1st January to 30th June

Annual Challenges:
Cover Love
The Year I Scaled by TBR Mountain… 2019

Own Pace Challenges:
My Bloody Bazaar Games Thread ~ I’ve completed the Knight Fright game and have started the Swords & Airships one.
Palmistry Reading

Ok, so I’m addicted to collecting the Vampire Hearts that we earn for every challenge completed! You don’t blame me though, they’re gorgeous, right?! Lol!

As you know, I review books on this blog that I’ve bought, as well as ARCs (Advance or Early Reader Copy) that I’ve received from authors or publishers both directly and through NetGalley. (I’ve finally got my NetGalley addiction under control.) But I thought that I’d share with you the ARCs that are still on my TBR list.

I’ve stuck to my NetGalley Plan, spread out the release dates of books I’ve requested and limited myself to only requesting a couple per month. (Click the titles for their Goodreads listing)

June Releases ~ Kingdom of Exiles and Alpha’s Promise are both being released on 25th

July Releases ~ Soul Keeper (9th)

August Releases ~

September Releases ~ The Immortal City (19th)

October Release ~ Secrets of the House of Chocolate (22nd)

Organised, eh?! So I have plenty of time to read them all. *phew*

Thanks to the wonderful authors, publishers and NetGalley for the opportunities they give me to read books and feed my reading addiction! 😉

And finally this made me smile; I love the humour and, of course, it’s vampire themed so hey, I just had to share it. 😉

So, now you’ve read my post, why don’t you hop along to some of the other amazing blogs taking part in this week’s The Sunday Post. If you’re taking part too, don’t forget to leave your comment below with a link to your Sunday Post so I can visit your blog and check out what you’ve been up to.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Bye for now. x

  1. Two bank holidays? Wow!!! I hope you’ll enjoy the extra time to read! Or walk or ..depending on the weather in the UK right now (here it’s crazy between pouring and then extra hot!).

    1. Even if the weather is great, Sophie that’ll just mean I take my Kindle outside to read instead of stay indoors.Lol!
We don’t really get extremes like that in our weather – although it was bloody hot and dry last summer for weeks on end, our green and pleasant land became brown and unpleasant land. lol!

  2. I love May and its bank holidays!

Kindle Unlimited has been a hit and a miss for me. It’s one of those that has so many books I want to read but I always have so much other stuff to read I dont feel like I properly get my money’s worth some months. 😦
Hope it works out better for you!

  3. Getting my money’s worth from my Kindle Unlimited subscription is definitely my main concern too, Nicci. I’m going to keep a track of the next few months.

  6. The Vampire Wars Team Challenge sounds like a lot of fun! I’ve been thinking of biting the bullet and purchasing Kindle Unlimited. It sure is tempting with so many authors offering there books as part of the program. Discovering new blogs is something I enjoy doing as well! It looks like you got a lot of awesome books this week! I’m especially interested in Alpha’s Promise! I enjoy reading Rebecca Zanetti’s books. Have a great week 🙂

  7. I love that May has two holidays. In the US I didn’t have any days off between Jan 1 and Memorial Day at the end of May. School kids get more time off but the corporate world had no other days off unless you take vacation.

You have some great ARCS – enjoy! I hope you have a great week!
