Top 5 Tuesday – Fantasy, Fantasy, Fantasy!

Good morning my lovelies,

I had a great time last month joining with Top 5 Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm and thought I’d take part again this month too. Shanah comes up with the topics a month at a time so that we’ve got some thinking space. If you’re interested in participating in Top 5 Tuesday, all you have do is write up your post and pingback to one of Shanah’s posts. Make sure you pingback to her posts and not just her blog so she can add you to the list.

This week’s topic is…

June 25 – Top 5 fantasy

Fantasy means:

“The faculty or activity of imagining impossible or improbable things.”

As my favourite genre is paranormal romance practically every single book I read could be tagged fantasy. So what am I going to take it to mean for this challenge? I’m going to choose those books that I have tagged fantasy on my various Goodreads shelves.

Kingdom of Exiles by Maxym M Martineau

Assassin’s Creed meets Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in this gripping, epic fantasy romance trilogy.

My heart wasn’t part of the deal when I bargained for my life,
But assassins so rarely keep their word.

Exiled Charmer Leena Edenfrell is running out of time. Empty pockets forced her to sell her beloved magical beasts-an offense punishable by death-and now there’s a price on her head. With the realm’s most talented murderer-for-hire nipping at her heels, Leena makes Noc an offer he can’t refuse: powerful mythical creatures in exchange for her life.

Plagued by a curse that kills everyone he loves, Noc agrees to Leena’s terms in hopes of finding a cure. Never mind that the dark magic binding the assassin’s oath will eventually force him to choose between Leena’s continued survival…and his own.

In a game of trust and half-lies, only one thing can be certain: traps capture more than beasts and ensnared hearts are impossible to untangle.

Stardust by Neil Gaiman

Life moves at a leisurely pace in the tiny town of Wall—named after the imposing stone barrier which separates the town from a grassy meadow.

Here, young Tristran Thorn has lost his heart to the beautiful Victoria Forester and for the coveted prize of her hand, Tristran vows to retrieve a fallen star and deliver it to his beloved. It is an oath that sends him over the ancient wall and into a world that is dangerous and strange beyond imagining…

Next I want to mention some amazing fantasy series. Some of these series I’ve read and some I’m still working my way through.

Warrior Chronicles by K.F. Breene is a completed six book epic fantasy series which follows Shanti on her quest to kill The Supreme Being, Xandre, who is a despicable dictator who’s vision it is to have everyone in the land under his tyrannical rule and who was part of the massacre of her entire village when she was just 5 years old.

The world Ms Breene created is populated by peoples of different clans with varying skills such as being skilled craftsmen, effective traders or trained warriors who fight with blade and arrow to either protect their inhabitants or to enslave others. Some individuals, throughout this fantasy land, also have additional paranormal mind Gifts.

I came across this series last year. I’d downloaded the first book – Chosen – way back in 2015 but as I’m not a huge fan of reading epic fantasy, I put off reading it. That all changed last December – it was fantastic! I’ve just finished reading book 4 – Invasion – I’ll post a review soon and have downloaded book 5 – Siege – ready to read next.

I came to Jennifer Blackstream’s Blood Prince series quite late, I happened to read a short story by Ms Blackstream’s as part of a box set anthology of fairytales re-telling and really enjoyed her take on the Cinderella story and her unique storytelling style.

I like the way she takes traditional tales and makes them her own; Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Rapunzel, they all get the Blackstream treatment in this superb paranormal romance series!

I find Ms Blackstream’s writing style very easy to read, the pace and plot development is well balanced, I enjoy the twists and turns she takes us on and enjoy that she always puts a mystery to be solved in the background story arc that continues through this five book series.

What Top 5 list on this site would be complete without mentioning one of my favourite go-to authors.

Felicity Heaton’s Eternal Mates series is a collection of books with romance and Happy ever after endings a-plenty.

The world is full of powerful dark elves, immortal demon kings, sexy shape-shifters, lethal fae, wicked vampires, dark sorceresses, light witches and the demon-hunting organisation, Archangel… where portals link realms both terrifying and fantastical, and men are willing to risk all to claim the hearts of their eternal mates.
