Friday Finds – Reblogged Reviews plus Book Blogger Hop

Hello Avid Readers,

Today is Friday so it’s time for another Friday Finds post. I have found some great reviews around the blogosphere that I want to share with you this week.

I’m enjoying being part of the weekly  Book Blogger Hop meme too, hosted by Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addict, so I’m doing it again today and my answer to this week’s question is at the bottom of this post.

If you are one of my lovely new followers let me just take a moment to explain what my Friday Finds posts are all about. I like to read, my favourite genre is paranormal romance but I’ve also been known to curl up with the odd urban fantasy or paranormal cozy mystery too. But it’s a big wide literary world out there and I decided back in January that you, my dear followers, might be interested in the reviews about books from other genres to help you find your next favourite book. Ta!Da! My weekly Friday Finds post was born.

Here are some non-paranormal romance books that fellow book bloggers enjoyed reading (in no particular order).

Three Days Breathing by Mike Maguire from Avalinah’s Books

Evelina is a book blogger and reviewer who’s preferred genres are general fiction, fantasy and sci-fi, but she also reads non-fiction books on important topics like equality, disability, fair treatment of individuals. I don’t read dystopian stories and this dark tale would be too much for me but I loved reading Evelina’s thoughtful review.

Justified / It’s All About That Cowboy (Loveless, Texas #1) by Jay Crownover from The Secret World of Book Lovers

Carla really does read all types of genres. Her reviews are very informative and she adds lots of links to help her followers to connect to the authors too. Her site also hosts cover reveals and blog tours and this book review is one of those.

Wanderers by Chuck Wendig from Caffeinated Reviewer

Kimberly is a self proclaimed audiobook junkie, avid reader and coffee drinker. She doesn’t limit herself to just reading one genre but I reads books from young adult to hot and steamy romances with a healthy love of a good horror or Zombie book

Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens from A Wondrous Bookshelf

This fellow bookworm likes reading a vast array of book genres, but most of the books and audiobooks she reviews on her blog are fiction, women’s fiction, cozy mystery, thriller, fantasy and YA.

And my final review this week is from a blog that I’ve only just started following…

Review: Real Murders by Charlaine Harris from Musings From An Addicted Reader

I don’t know who this blogger is but their site is dedicated to reviewing books and book tours. Every genre seems to be covered including; Young Adult, Paranormal, Erotica, Thriller, Fantasy, Contemporary, Suspense, Historical.

So, that’s my picks for this week. I hope you find a moment or two to click at least one of these reviews yourself – who knows you may just find your next favourite author!

Now on to the Book Blogger Hop meme which is hosted by Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addict. A question is posted each week, you answer the question and visit others blogs to see what their answers are. Easy!

So this week’s question is:

What do you like/dislike about self-published works? (submitted by Nicki @ Nicki J. Markus/Asta Idonea)

I really admire people that can take that step and publish their book baby without the backing of a publishing house; it takes gumption. What I get frustrated about is when the work published is with glaring SPaG needs, i.e. spelling, punctuation and grammar errors (a teaching assistant is always on duty!). I know that authors tend to get their family and friends to read their work before going through the expense of publishing it, so why don’t they say something?

What do you like and dislike about indie books? I’ve read many wonderful books by indie authors. I’d love to hear what your experiences are.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read this post. I hope you have a good weekend and manage to read (or listen to) a great story.

Happy Reading!

x
