Flora’s Mini Book Reviews… Independent Necromancers Bureau Series by Victoria DeLuis

Hello Avid Readers,

Sometimes, when I read a book I don’t write a full review, I just write a paragraph or two to publish on Amazon and Goodreads; especially if it’s a book with thousands of reviews already. But I want to build up my blog to be THE place to go to for paranormal romance fans, so I should really post those smaller reviews on here too, right?

So with that in mind, today, I want to share my thoughts about…

Short Book #1 Till Death ~ 4 Stars

Till Death, the stand-alone prequel to the upcoming, urban fantasy series, The Independent Necromancers’ Bureau.

In a world where rogue necromancers control the dead and turn them against the living, The Independent Necromancers’ Bureau works to keep law and order.

When some uninvited guests show up at a wedding party, Cassie Dune— an agent with the INB— must fight to stop them. With the aid of Detective Inspector Luke Baron, Cassie must stop a rampaging horde of zombies before it’s too late— an act that causes her to learn more about her power and its origins.

A Well Crafted Short Story That I Couldn’t Stop Reading.

I am already a fan of Ms DeLuis’ books. I find her writing style easy to read with intelligent, intriguing plots, well written dialogue and characters that engage me from the first page to the last.

Although this a very short story (less than 25pages) Ms DeLuis still crafted it with as much care as she would her full novels. I love that her descriptions transported me to each scene; I could see, smell and hear everything in my mind’s eye.

This book only missed out on 5 stars because I feel reluctance rating any books this short with the top rating.

Short Book #2 A Matter of Death ~ 4 Stars

A Matter of Death, a stand-alone story, set in the world of the upcoming, urban fantasy series, The Independent Necromancers’ Bureau. You do not need to read any of the other stories in the series to enjoy this book.

In a world where rogue necromancers control the dead and turn them against the living, The Independent Necromancers’ Bureau works to keep law and order.

When Dylan turns up at agent Cassie Dune’s house just before sunrise, she knows something is up, and anything that bothers a two-hundred year old ghost, is sure to be bad news for Cassie. A necromancer has imprisoned the spirit of Dylan’s friend Elizabeth. Can Cassie find her and save her soul?

This is a good short story, I enjoyed it. This book is not long enough to immerse yourself completely with the world or main characters of this new series; with only 21 pages to play with the plot moved quickly with no false leads & character development was brief – think of it like a prologue – but I feel that it whetted my interest enough to seek the series out.
