Top 5 Tuesday – My Favourite Reads. Titles From U to Z

Good morning my lovelies,

I had a great time last month joining with Top 5 Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm and thought I’d take part again this month too. Shanah comes up with the topics a month at a time so that we’ve got some thinking space.

If you’re interested in participating in Top 5 Tuesday, all you have do is write up your post and pingback to one of Shanah’s posts. Make sure you pingback to her posts and not just her blog so she can add you to the list.

This month Shanah has been trying something different; each week instead of a topic, she wanted us to post books that have titles that start with particular letters of the alphabet!

I have had to put on my thinking cap and trawled through my bookshelves to share with you those books that meet the required criteria and have earned a place on my Goodreads 5 Star Review shelf.

As this week is our final Alphabet of Books there are quite a few tricky letters but I am happy with the books I’ve chosen to share with you. Some are books I’ve read and loved while others are books I’d love to read. As usual clicking on the image will take you directly to my review in a new tab. So, without further ado…

U is for The Unhappy Medium by T.J. Brown

The Unhappy Medium is the first book in a series and has less than 1,000 ratings on Goodreads.

The first few chapters set up the feel of the story (think Horrible Histories for adults or Terry Pratchett’s Discworld irreverence) and I loved the way that Mr Brown wove facts, stories and theories from history and science throughout his tale.

This is a great paranormal story and I really enjoyed reading it; it was such a laugh! The characters were entertaining, the plot was interesting and I enjoyed the twists & turns.

I would recommend this book if you like stories from paranormal, urban fantasy or science fiction genres.

V is for The Viscount’s Son by Aderyn Wood

The Viscount’s Son is a novella/short story that kicks off The Viscount’s Son Trilogy and has less than 200 ratings on Goodreads.

I haven’t yet read the rest of the books but I loved the unique way that Aderyn Wood told this story. I felt as though I not only got to know Emma through her blog but the mysterious diary writer “N.C.” too. Although I did guess the twist, I was still gripped, wanting to keep reading and the way the story ended gave me great pleasure (eek! it’s hard to write a review without giving anything away! Lol!)

This is a great story! It’s easy to download and way too cheap! If you like mystery stories with a bit of fantasy and romance without being gory or overtly erotic, you will love this.

W is for The Warrior Vampire by Kate Baxter

This is the second book in Ms Baxter’s way underrated (in my opinion) Last True Vampire series with less than 500 ratings on Goodreads! Shocking!

This series showcases what I love about Paranormal Romance; it’s about vampires, half-breeds, slayers and other creatures that go bump in the night.

I loved this book (I’ve already read it twice); it’s passionate, thrilling, emotional and has kick-ass fight scenes. I think it has it all; relationship/family drama, mystery, action and thrills when tracking demons, fighting and passionate sex scenes!

If you’re a fan of adult paranormal romance stories where your heroines are intelligent, witty and independent and your heroes strong, sexy with a big heart waiting to be unleashed or if you’ve enjoyed reading the “destined soul mate” theme of Felicity Heaton’s Eternal Mates Series or Dianne Duvall’s Immortal Guardians Series, then I think you’ll love this paranormal romance novel too.

And now we come to those tricky final 3 letters.

X is for hell if I know.

I don’t have any books on any of my Goodreads shelves that start with X so I started looking through Goodreads lists and Amazon to find something that I would actually want to read. Finally I found this with my Kindle Unlimited subscription:

Xavier by D.M. Mortier

He Has Lived His Entire Life Hiding What He Really Is

Some things in nature are impossible to explain. I have lived my entire life hiding what I am, watching my family and friends being fatally wounded while I escape with sometimes a scar to mark the tragedy. I know of only one other man like me. We both use what we are to serve and protect. I have no need now to come out of the shadows, except for the firebrand Cassandra Kelly. She is more than a man like me deserves: beautiful, intelligent, and funny as hell. Despite knowing that she is far out of my league, I can’t help wanting the bliss her sweetness promises. I have to ask myself whether she will survive when others close to me haven’t.

˃˃˃ He Is Determined To Protect Her From Her Stalker

I’m not in her country in a professional capacity, but I have to rely on all of my resources to keep her safe from a determined stalker. Now that he knows that I am a part of her life he will stop at nothing to eradicate me from the picture. Many have tried to kill me, but I appear to be indestructible. We are under constant threat, and it will be impossible for Cassandra to ignore what a freak of nature I am.

˃˃˃ She Isn’t Interested In Love, Not With Everything On Her Plate

I don’t need or want a man in my life. I’ve got too many things left to do, not the least of which are getting myself drafted into the WNBA and making sure my youngest brother gets into college. No one warned me about men like Xavier Bautista. He is the most beautiful soul I have ever encountered. He is gentle and protective, making me feel like the most cherished woman on the planet. Against what is best for my future, I want him, despite the scars and despite what he considers freakish.

˃˃˃ Falling For Her Protector

Now I find that I have a sadist stalking me. Why me, why now? Xavier hasn’t admitted who he is, but one has only to look at him to know that he’s a defender. I should be worried about the man following my every move, but Xavier proves time and again he can be relied upon to shield me.

It has received less than 80 ratings on Goodread by it’s average is 4.34 stars which means the majority of readers really enjoyed it.

Y is for Yvette’s Haven by Tina Folsom

I have already read and really enjoyed the first three books in the Scanguards Vampire series and Yvette’s Haven is next on my list. Here’s the blurb:

Can be read as a standalone

After being kidnapped by a vampire hunter, vampire bodyguard Yvette’s first instinct is to kill the bastard. But before she gets the chance, she realizes that he was double-crossed by the witch he was working for and now is in as much danger as she is.

To get his brother out of trouble, bounty hunter / vampire slayer Haven has to deliver the young actress Kimberly to a witch. Unfortunately, she’s protected by the very creature he hates most: a vampire.

As Yvette and Haven try to escape their prison and rescue the actress and Haven’s brother, will their natural hatred for each other keep them apart or is the passion that bubbles up between them strong enough for them to dare risk their lives to defeat the witch from harnessing the greatest power of all?

Z is for Zombie’s Bite by Karen Chance

This series has been highly recommended (numerous times lol!) by my friend Elaine (go visit her amazing blog) and I downloaded this litte freebie novella a few months ago and plan to read it before the year’s out. Here’s the blurb:

When Dorina Basarab, half human, half vampire, assassin-for-hire, hits New Orleans, she thinks it’s for a typical job: take out a mad master vamp before he can wreak havoc on the city. But when the elusive master suddenly shows up at her hotel, things get complicated, especially when Dory realizes that the murder he has in mind is his own! And that the Big Easy is about to get a whole lot harder.

So that’s it.

Thanks for stopping by don’t forget to let me know if you’ve read any of my choices today. What would you have chosen? Now that you’ve read my post, why don’t you hop along to some of the other amazing blogs taking part in this week’s Top 5 Tuesday and if you’re joining in the fun this week, don’t forget to leave a link to your Top 5 Tuesday post so I can visit your blog .

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Bye for now. x
