Flora’s Mini Book Reviews… Taunting Destiny (The Fae Chronicles #2) by Amelia Hutchins

Hello Avid Readers,

Sometimes, when I read a book I don’t write a full review, I just write a paragraph or two to publish on Amazon and Goodreads; especially if it’s a book with thousands of reviews already. But I want to build up my blog to be THE place to go to for paranormal romance fans, so I should really post those smaller reviews on here too, right?

I chose to read this series as the author, Amelia Hutchins, is one of the attending authors at RARE19 in London on 21st September and I am so glad that I am. 🙂

So with that in mind, today, I want to share my thoughts about…

Taunting Destiny (The Fae Chronicles #2) by Amelia Hutchins

I thought things were bad and weird before—hold on—it’s getting worse.

Adam and I are both going through identity crises of epic proportions as we Transition from who we were, and discover who we were meant to be. More Fae are dying, and I feel as if time is running out for us to find all of those responsible and put an end to the killings.

The people I thought I could trust have betrayed me and the one person I should absolutely not trust; is taking me deeper and deeper into his world.

Ryder’s secrets are dangerous and devastating.

With each touch and word, he pulls my heart closer to himself and at the same time he is trying to keep me at arm’s length. The dance he and I have begun, is getting more complicated as our worlds are being shaken from all sides, and the visions of the future are frightening, and nothing like I had ever pictured for myself or those I care for.

This time, destiny is taunting me.

I had always thought that I controlled my destiny. Now, my rights are being taken from me by powerful people and leaving me with alternatives that range between bad and awful.

This time, the choices I have to make can decide the fate of both worlds.

A Gripping Second Instalment That Had Me Holding My Breath.

Amelia Hutchins is still a newish author to me but I am so glad to have found her; I am becoming addicted to this series. I love her writing style, the pace she set for her story and the gripping plot with its twists and turns. The characters she has created are complex souls that exhibited all the traits that I crave to keep my interest.

If you’ve read any of my reviews before, you will know that I enjoy a story more when the female main character is intelligent, resilient, resourceful, self-reliant and has plenty of gumption. Synthia (Syn) ticks all my boxes and also has a great sense of humour and a sarkiness that I love.

I love that this book made me feel so many emotions; yes, I did blubber like a baby at times – but I won’t tell you how often or when 😉 – the tension had me holding my breath on the edge of my seat, the fighting got my adrenaline pumping and the sex scenes were so hot and erotic that the tingles were off the chart but there are also beautifully tender moments that just warmed my heart.

I would just like to say that some of the behaviour of the species in this book may cause offense or trigger emotions some readers should avoid. It’s always a grey area, romances written about succubi or inccubi type Fae because sex without consent is rape and the overwhelming power of these Fae to make humans do things they mentally might not want to is, in theory by our real life laws, rape. Having said that if you persist, Ms Hutchins gives us insightful glimpses into Ryder’s inner dialogue which illuminates the obvious love that he has for Syn.

Taunting Destiny was a bloody good read and I was going to rate it 5 stars until the final couple of chapters. I could see it coming – Cliffhanger Alert! I never give top ratings to books with perilous cliffhangers, and this one ends in an “out of the frying pan…” type situation. I already own the rest of the books in this series despite my passionate hatred of cliffhangers as I am keen to see how many of those mysteries are solved and what will happens next for Syn.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read my mini review. I hope I’ve sparked your interest.

Bye for now,

Flora x
