Hello my lovelies,
Happy New Year! I thought that I would start this new year off by looking back on my journey in books for 2019! I was inspired by the Goodreads email that I got a week or so ago: showcasing the highs and the lows, the most popular books that I’ve read as well as the unsung heroes …
I can’t quite believe that I read that many pages – 30,133 pages across 116 books. Of course, some of these were audible books and Goodreads
Lots of the books I read are novellas, some were painfully lacking while others, like Till Death by Victoria DeLuis was AMAZING. I don’t read many lengthy epics, so it’s no surprise to me to see a box set appear as my LONGEST Book ~ 893 pages Creatus Series Boxed Set by Carmen DeSousa, however, it’s Dianne Duvall’s Death of Darkness that actually wins at 509 pages. Goodreads have calculated that the average size of book that I’ve read this year is 259 pages.
I think that I’ve mentioned in a post or two this year, that I like reading independent authors and those books released by the smaller publishers.
My first Goodreads review of the year.
Funnily enough, the first review that I posted was for an ARC – Dark Alpha’s Awakening by Donna Grant, book 7 in her Reaper series. I really liked it and rated it 5 Stars.
I like the way she paces the development of the plot. I love the fantasy world that Ms Grant has created and that her characters are not black or white, good or evil but allowed to be complex souls with a multifaceted mix …more
I find Donna’s writing style easy to read and have continued to read her paranormal romance books throughout the year.
My last Goodreads review of the year.
The last review that I posted was for an urban fantasy, science fiction mix – science fiction isn’t my usual reading matter – Sweep of the Blade by Ilona Andrews – book 4 in the Innkeeper Chronicles. I really liked it and rated it 5 Stars.
I’m already a big fan of this Urban Fantasy series and love Ilona Andrews’ writing style. Natalie Naudus is a new-to-me narrator and I loved her performance.
My 5 star rating confirms that I love this latest instalment of the Innkeeper Chronicles.
If you’ve read any of my Monthly Wrap-Up posts, you’ll know that I take part in the Goodreads Annual Reading Challenge. This year I read 116 out of 110 books – achieving 105% of my target!
Goodreads said: “Congratulations! You’re really good at reading, and probably a lot of other things, too!“
Thank you for taking the time to read my post, I just want to wish you all a wonderful New Year and hope that 2020 is a huge success for all of us!
Keep reading for a month-by-month montage of all the books I’ve read this year (only if you’re interested) 😉
