Good morning my lovelies,
The weekends are the perfect time for me to sit back and catch up on life – both on and off the blog. Back in April 2019, I decided to write a monthly round up post at the weekend closest to the last day of the month. I can’t believe I’ve been writing these Wrap Up posts for a year now! 😲🥳
The Sunday Post is a chance for us to share news, to recap the past week on our blogs and showcase books and things we have received. To share with you what is coming up on our blogs for the week ahead and don’t forget, this meme is also the perfect opportunity to check out other bloggers and read some great blogs. So, once you’ve read my post, why don’t you hop along to some of the other amazing blogs taking part in this week’s The Sunday Post.
So what have I been up to this month?
Like so many of us, December has been a full-on month with lots happening on and off the blog.
The lowlights still refer to the redundancies that will happen at my school in the new year. 🙁 I still worry about how the loss of staff will affect the day-to-day organisation at my school and I feel sad that I won’t be working with a couple of ladies who I have grown very close to over the years. The obligatory “work’s do” was a weird evening that felt off: I was glad that it was over relatively quickly and I was back home at 9.30pm.
The highlights this month include my birthday and Christmas! I edged ever closer to the big 5-0 on the 13th December and I can’t believe how the years have flown. We enjoyed a stress-free Christmas lunch at home – just the four of us – with my parents, brother and his girlfriend joining us for Christmas supper. Boxing Day was just as relaxing for me with the four of us joining Hubby’s parents at their house for supper but with the rest of the day to ourselves.
As you might remember from last month’s Wrap Up post, Flora’s Musings… has now surpassed the 300 followers mark and, as I type this, there are now 329 of you! I can’t tell you how much that means to me: I’m touched and flabbergasted! Thank you to all of you; knowing that you take the time to read my reviews and click on my posts – it’s humbling.
With all the turmoil in the world, I get so much job satisfaction from being a teaching assistant and helping children reach their potential. The old adage “every day is a school day” is so true.
I’m finding a similar sense of job satisfaction working with authors as part of my BETA READING service. If you know any debut or self-published authors who are looking for a professional pre-publication or work-in-progress critique, don’t forget to send them my way. If you don’t know what a beta reader does, my page explains it all. 🙂
I really enjoy joining in with these weekly memes and try to return as many visits and comments as I can. Sorry if I’ve missed anyone this month.
I’m still linked up to Blog Lovin’, so if you’re part of that community too, I’d love it if you’d give me a follow and I can follow you back.
So what have I been posting here on my blog…
- Check out my weekly meme posts: Friday Finds ~ Book Blogger Hop ~ Top 5 Tuesdays
- I shared a New Release with you this month:
- I took part in some book PR – Cover Reveals, Tours and Giveaways:
- And, of course, I found the time to write some book reviews: Fused in Fire by K.F. Breene ~ A Ghostly Gift by Angie Fox ~ The Darkest Assassin by Gena Showalter ~ Here Be Sexist Vampires by Suzanne Wright ~ Seducing Destiny by Amelia Hutchins ~ A Touch of Death by Rebecca Crunden ~ The Journals of Octavia Hollows by Stacey Rourke ~ The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter
As we know, of all the amazing content we publish on our blogs, the book reviews are the least interacted with. I know they get read, as you all kindly click the like button, but usually the interaction stops there. So, although I still write full reviews for the ARC books I read (I feel I owe it to the authors and publishers), I decided that the mini review format was the way forward for this particular book blogger and I have swapped to sharing mini reviews for all the others. 😉
Moving forward, what else can you expect from me in January?
- Celebrating those New Book Releases
- Hopefully some author interviews, cover reveals, book tours and spotlight posts
- More weekly Friday Finds, Top 5 Tuesdays posts and Book Blogger Hop questions answered
- and of course, lots of book reviews!
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I take part in the Goodreads Annual Reading Challenge but I also join in with other reading challenges. I thought that I’d use these regular wrap up posts to update you on my progress in all the challenges that I’m taking part in …
Cosplay Cuties ~ Collect a Cosplay Cutie doll each month by completing at least 2 tasks out of a set of 6. A new set of tasks with a new doll is posted each month and I’ve been taking part in this challenge since January! I’ve managed to collect all 12!
Own Pace Challenges:
My Bloody Bazaar Games Thread ~ I’ve completed the Knight Fright game, the Swords & Airships one, the Russian Roulette game and the Creature Castle one. Back in September, I started the Wishing Well game but haven’t made much progress, so no heart for that one yet. oops!
Cover Love ~ It’s all about book covers. This scavenger hunt gives us a list of 100 things to find but we can only use one book for each item. It is split into 4 sections; items, words in the title, main cover colour and font colours.
Ok, so I’m addicted to collecting the Vampire Hearts that we earn for every challenge completed! You don’t blame me though, they’re gorgeous, right?! Lol!
The Year I Scaled by TBR Mountain… 2019
This doesn’t earn me a Vampire Heart but it’s helping me finish those half started series that I mentioned in a Top 5 Tuesday post a while back… 😉 The trouble is, I keep adding to the series list, especially since reading friends keep recommending such great books!! Lol!
As you know, I review books on this blog that I’ve bought, as well as ARCs (Advance or Early Reader Copy) that I’ve received from authors or publishers both directly and through NetGalley. (I’ve finally got my NetGalley addiction under control.) But, each month, I thought that I’d share with you the ARCs that are waiting to be read.
January Releases ~ Dark Alpha’s Temptation (7th)
February Releases ~ nothing yet!
March Releases ~ nothing yet!
April Releases ~ nothing yet!
Magic Unleashed the first book in Devri Walls Venators series was released 10th April 2018 and I was sent an ebook in December ready for the blog tour taking place in March.
I’ve managed to stick to my NetGalley Plan – limited myself to only requesting a couple per month and try to spread out the release dates of those books – and my ARC TBR pile is happily under control!
Thanks to the wonderful authors, publishers and NetGalley for the opportunities they give me to read books and feed my reading addiction! 😉
I love browsing the various Facebook groups and reading groups that I belong; they always seem to have such great memes for every occasion. 😉
So, now you’ve read my post, why don’t you hop along to some of the other amazing blogs taking part in this week’s The Sunday Post. If you’re taking part too, don’t forget to leave your comment below with a link to your Sunday Post so I can visit your blog and check out what you’ve been up to.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Bye for now.
