I've said it before, but sometimes I'm a bad person. I cheated on my twelfth grade math final, I've run countless yellow lights, and I gossip about how hot my kickass best friends are. (Good thing my job as a guild bartender doesn't require moral perfection.)

But there's bad, and then there's bad. And I'm not sure which applies to a certain dark druid/wanted criminal/reluctant friend of mine. His transgressions include black-magic dealings, kidnapping, and murder, and he's about to add "revenge-fueled killing spree" to his resume—if I don't stop him.

Should I stop him?

He and his nemesis are gearing up to tear each other apart, rogues and vultures are converging with their sights on the spoils, and the guilds that would normally stomp them into the ground are under attack. We're on the brink of an all-out criminal turf war, and my time to decide is almost up.
Who's the real bad guy ... and do I dare stand in his way?

Gutsy Determination and Hefty Sacrifices – What an Adventure!

Annette Marie has become a tried and trusted author with this series. Annette’s writing style is intelligent and easy to sink into. I’m captivated by this world of Mythics, danger and secrecy. This one has been my favourite story so far.

Druid Vices and a Vodka had all the elements that I look for in a gripping story.

It has a great plot, with plenty of action and conflict. However, there’s enough humour to keep me engaged. Tori is a young woman (only 21) and a great character. She’s already exhibited many of the personality traits that I love; resilience, humour and self-reliance. Not being born into this dangerous world of Mythics, I love how Tori is seeking out to fill all the gaps in her knowledge and skills. Fantastic! Tori’s gumption and love of her new Mythic family are put to the test in this story – I love her determination and wept at the sacrifices she made.

Cris Dukehart’s performance was fantastic.

I really like the pace at which Cris reads the story and the emotion she conveys in the narrative. She manages to create slightly different voices for the characters meaning that I never felt confused about who was speaking during the many conversations. Cris has definitely captured Tori’s character and the feel of the story brilliantly in her narration.

Annette doesn’t leave us with nasty cliffhangers. Woop!

Tori continues to grow and develop with each book. We also learn more about Aaron, Kai and Ezra as the series progresses too. New characters are introduced as more about the Mythic world is revealed and secrets are uncovered. But, nothing is left hanging dangerously in a life-or-death cliffhanger. The threat and mystery in this story are dramatically dealt with before the end. However, I’m keen to find out how the events in this story will affect things. What will Tori and the guys get mixed up with next?!

I’d recommend Druid Vices and a Vodka to fans of action and adventure stories. Especially those who enjoy escapades within urban fantasy settings and don’t mind a bit of slow-burn romance thrown in.

About Annette Marie

Annette Marie Author Photo

Annette Marie is the author of YA urban fantasy series Steel & Stone, its prequel trilogy Spell Weaver, romantic fantasy trilogy Red Winter, and sassy UF series The Guild Codex.

Her first love is fantasy, but fast-paced adventures and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She proudly admits she has a thing for dragons, and her editor has politely inquired as to whether she intends to include them in every book.

Annette lives in the frozen winter wasteland of Alberta, Canada (okay, it’s not quite that bad). She shares her life with her husband and their furry minion of darkness—sorry, cat—Caesar.

When not writing, she can be found elbow-deep in one art project or another while blissfully ignoring all adult responsibilities.

And because this is a review about an audiobook, here’s Cris’s bio and links too.
