Release Date: 16 June, 2020

Delve into an exciting new stand-alone novel in New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall’s “fast-paced and humorous” (Publishers Weekly), “utterly addictive” (RT Book Reviews) Immortal Guardians series.

Nick Belanger can’t stop thinking about the single mother who lives next door. She’s smart. She’s funny. She’s so beautiful he can’t stare at her too long for fear his eyes will start to glow. But Kayla thinks he’s just an ordinary guy who works in security. Finding out he instead is a powerful immortal warrior who hunts and slays psychotic vampires for a living may not go over well, particularly since she has a daughter she doesn’t want to endanger.

Kayla Dorman can keep neither her gaze nor her thoughts from straying to the man next door. Who can blame her really? He is the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome with smart, charming, and honorable thrown in. He’s also a few years younger than her and surely would not be interested in a single mom who hasn’t dated since her divorce. At least that’s what she thinks until an accident nearly takes her life and Nick risks all to save her.

The dynamics of their relationship swiftly change. The friendship they’ve developed over the years deepens into love as the two spend every minute they can together, laughing and teasing, never suspecting a threat may lurk in the shadows. But that threat soon strikes, making it clear that Nick is the target and his enemy doesn’t care if Kayla gets caught in the cross fire. Though Kayla bravely rises to the occasion and is determined to do whatever it takes to help Nick defeat his enemy, Nick is terrified of losing her. Can he identify and eliminate his new nemesis before the man takes everything from him?

Fun Q&A with Dianne Duvall

Flora: Hello Dianne and welcome to Flora’s Musings…

Dianne: Hello! Thanks for letting me visit, Flora, and for helping me celebrate the release of BROKEN DAWN. 🙂

Flora: I’m a huge fan of the world that you’ve created in your three series – The Gifted Ones, Aldebarian Alliance and, of course, Immortal Guardians – and have loved reading each one. We usually have to wait a year for a new Duvall book to be released, how did you manage to release Broken Dawn so quickly following The Lasaran‘s release on 21st April? (I’m not complaining, I’m ecstatic!)

Dianne: I’ve been working hard to find a daily schedule that would allow me more writing time and think I’ve finally stumbled upon it. LOL. As a result, the past year or so has been the most productive year I’ve had thus far. So much so that I plan to release the second book in my Aldebarian Alliance series later this year. 🙂

Flora: Wow! That’s FANTASTIC news, Dianne! Of course I’m happy to hear you’ve found a working pattern that helps you too. 😉

You pride yourself on the fact that all of your books can be read as standalone titles although they’re set in the same world. Broken Dawn is different from previous books as Nick is an unknown Immortal to the fans of the series. Has that changed your writing process? Will we be seeing more new Immortals brought to our attention in future books?

Dianne: Nick IS new, so readers and listeners who are new to the series won’t be lost at all if they pick up BROKEN DAWN. And you guessed right: he won’t be the last new immortal I’ll introduce. There are others whose stories I’ve wanted to tell, but time restrictions prevented me from doing so. I will certainly write more books that feature members of the North Carolina crew (both new members and already established members). But I’ll tell others’ stories as well.

Flora: Wow, I’m even more glad now that you’ve found a working schedule that’s giving you all this extra quality time to write. 😉 I can’t wait.

However, Broken Dawn is also different from the previous Immortal Guardian books, as it’s set in Texas rather than in North Carolina. Was this a deliberate tactic to be able to open up the IG world and plot future books in other places? If so, which cities, countries or continents are calling to your writing muse? 😉

Dianne: I HAVE been wanting to open up the Immortal Guardians’ world, but I also was just intensely curious about the Immortal Guardian who took Marcus’s place in Houston when Marcus transferred to North Carolina a decade or so ago. When Immortal Guardians from Texas and elsewhere were called in to provide much-needed backup in DEATH OF DARKNESS, I became even more curious. And odd though it may seem, Eliana was the catalyst that led to my writing BROKEN DAWN. She only spoke a handful of words the one time we saw her in DEATH OF DARKNESS, but my muse instantly asked, “What if one of her hunting partners in Texas is the immortal who replaced Marcus?” And Nick’s story took off.

And once again you guessed right. I plan to venture out of North Carolina more in the future. I’m thinking I’ll eventually tell Rafe’s story in Texas. But another locale has been calling to me as well: Antarctica. But I won’t say why. 😉

Flora: I’ve got to say as I read your books, the supporting characters feel as real as the protagonists and I’m often left wondering about them too and asking those exact questions.

Thank you, Dianne, for answering my questions and for writing such mind-blowingly good stories. You’ve left me wondering why Antarctica is calling to you and where you’ll take us next! Lol!

Dianne: Thank you for the fun interview! I’m always happy to hear you’ve enjoyed my stories. I hope you and your readers will enjoy BROKEN DAWN!

The Immortal Guardians series by Dianne Duvall

Featured Immage - Immortal Guardians series by Dianne Duvall (2021)

Immortal Guardians series sits in the paranormal romance genre. However, it could also sit happily on an urban fantasy shelf due to much of the content. Set in our modern human world, it features a new twist on the vampire genre.

Immortals and vampires are both infected with the same virus, which lends them dramatically increased strength, speed, healing capabilities and enhanced senses. Vampires are humans who have been infected, whereas Immortals are Gifted Ones who have been infected. Gifted Ones are men and women who were born with extremely advanced DNA that lends them special gifts, such as healing, telepathy, precognition and the like. Vampires rapidly descend into madness when the virus damages their brains but Immortals don’t; their advanced DNA protects them from that aspect of the virus.
