The Lasaran (Aldebarian Alliance #) by Dianne Duvall
New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall brings readers the first novel in a thrilling new sci-fi romance series full of action, intrigue, humor, and happily-ever-afters.
Taelon searches the galaxy for his younger sister, who mysteriously disappeared while on a diplomatic mission. When an ally reveals that she was seized and is being held prisoner on Earth, Taelon descends upon the blue planet, intent on freeing her and exacting vengeance. However, all does not go as planned. Before he can find her, Taelon is captured and becomes the subject of torturous experiments. For what feels like an eternity, all he knows is pain and fury… until a mind tentatively touches his own and a woman’s voice forever changes his world.
After suffering tragic losses, Lisa is finally beginning to carve out a future for herself when chance sends her to the Anomalous Cognition Research Institute. What at first appears to be a benign organization seeking participants for a psychic study instead turns out to be a government facility harboring a much darker intent. Lisa discovers this too late and soon becomes the unwilling subject of a terrifying experiment. Just as fear and desperation threaten to consume her, a deep, compelling voice penetrates the looming insanity and lends her hope.
Having seen only the worst of humanity, Taelon is shocked when Lisa risks everything to free him. Together the two make their escape, and Taelon finds himself fascinated by the small human woman who—despite all she’s suffered—can still laugh and tease and lure smiles from him. Friendship swiftly grows between them as they work together to evade soldiers intent on capturing them and find themselves hunted by mystifying preternatural beings. Through it all, Lisa steadfastly remains by his side, stealing more of his heart each day while she helps him unravel the mystery of his sister’s fate. Can they find his sister before the hunters find them? If they survive their quest, will Taelon have to bid Lisa farewell… or can he coax her into leaving her planet and joining him for the adventure of a lifetime?

Flora: Hello Dianne and welcome back to my blog.
Dianne: Hi, Flora! Thanks so much for celebrating the big release with me!
Flora: I love the Immortal Guardians series and The Gifted Ones spin-off books; at what point did you decide to write a science fiction romance spin-off?
Dianne: This may surprise fans, but the premise of this book actually came to me before I began writing my Immortal Guardians books. I think it was about the same time the plot of A SORCERESS OF HIS OWN came to me. Once I started writing that one, however, gifted ones and immortals and the adventures and harrowing situations they wound up in quickly took over. But I couldn’t stop thinking about Taelon. Scenes from his story kept teasing my imagination. And as soon as I finished DEATH OF DARKNESS, I knew it was time to satisfy the sci-fi lover in me and tell not only Taelon’s tale, but also the others it inspired.
Flora: Oh, wow, it really has been brewing for a long time. I know existing fans will be VERY excited by this next book, but can The Lasaran be read in isolation? (Asking for those few individuals who haven’t read the Immortal Guardians‘ books yet). 😉
Dianne: Absolutely. Readers do not have to read the Immortal Guardians books to enjoy THE LASARAN or the books that will follow in the Aldebarian Alliance series. So for any readers out there who are new to my work: If you like sci-fi and paranormal romance that features strong heroes who love strong women, likeable secondary characters, action, passion, and humor, I hope you’ll pick up Taelon and Lisa’s story. 🙂
Flora: That’s good to know. At this point, do you know how many books will be in the Aldebarian Alliance series?
Dianne: Right now, this series can potentially have over a dozen books, all of which will be stand-alones with happily-ever-afters. I’m already working on the second book in the series and have the plots of several more constantly vying for attention.
Flora: Oh wow. That’s great! I know I’m not the only bookworm who loves HEAs, so thanks for that too. I wish more authors would write their series like that. Are there any authors that you look to for inspiration?
Dianne: I don’t really look to other authors for inspiration, though I admit Stephen King’s books always fire my imagination, regardless of the genre. I do have a bit of a quirk as a writer, though. Whatever romance sub-genre I’m currently writing in is the one I read in my spare time. So when I wrote books in The Gifted Ones series, I read medieval romance to help me stay in that mindset. When I work on an Immortal Guardians book, I usually read paranormal romance. I’ve been heavily into sci-fi romance lately. I think I’ve just needed more of an escape, and whatever better way to escape than to leave the planet? 😉 So I’ve been “hanging out” with Laurann Dohner’s Vorge Crew. I also recently delved into Lindsay Buroker’s Fallen Empire series and have been enjoying it.
Flora: Wow, thank you Dianne for answering my questions. I always learn something new about you. I’ve already pre-ordered my copy of The Lasaran and can’t wait to get my hands on it!
