So what’s A Warrior Wedding about?

A Warrior Wedding is the seventh book (approx 192 pages) in Teresa Gabelman’s highly popular paranormal romance series – The Protectors. The series is about an elite group of vampire warriors who protect the innocent, whether human or those of their own race, on behalf of the Vampire Council. This story is set two years after the vampire race came out of the shadows and takes place in and around Cincinnati, USA.

I focus my reviews on how the story was told rather than the plot itself. I’m looking at the author’s writing style, how they paced their plots and how well they constructed their characters and setting. Therefore, my reviews don’t contain spoilers or reveal plot twists.

Here’s what the official blurb has to say about the story.

After a devastating blow, the VC Warriors find themselves fighting, but not an enemy they can see. Their power and expertise alone cannot save the ones they love.

Breaking new and old laws, one Warrior is determined to save his mate no matter the consequences, but will his mate agree to be his downfall.

*DISCLOSURE*
No Warrior or main character was seriously injured during the writing of this book.

Each book in this fast-paced series usually focuses on the romance between one couple while multiple story-lines continue in the background. However, in this book, the romance/relationship between Slade and Jill was already cemented in the previous book when they became mates. Although Ms Gabelman weaves the main points about the continuing story-lines into this one, so much has happened that I am doubtful whether A Warrior Wedding can be read as a standalone book.

What did I like about A Warrior Wedding?

I’m already a fan of Teresa Gabelman’s writing style; I find her books easy to read, her plots are gripping, the pace is fast but never feels rushed and I am drawn in with main characters and a fantastic array of supporting cast (both human and vampire) that are totally believable that leave me wanting to read more! A Warrior Wedding is a fantastic addition to The Protectors series.

Jill’s exactly what I look for in a female lead.

As I said in my review for Slade (The Protectors #6), Jill Nichols is one of my favourite characters in this series. She’s smart, witty and has plenty of gumption. The Slade/Jill romance relationship is a beautiful thing. I loved seeing what happened next with this amazing couple. In fact, there were quite a few further developments in this novella relating to other characters.

I needed a box of tissues by my side. 🙁

I cried so much while reading this book. And I loved that it was such an emotional story (I loved that). My blood boiled with the frustrating bureaucracy and prejudice. The tension had me on the edge of my seat. However, A Warrior Wedding also gave us the opportunity to see the lighter sides of a few stoic alphas. The humour and banter made me chuckle (thank heavens for Steve).

Was there anything I disliked about it?

I absolutely loved everything about this book! (Hence the 5 stars)

I would just like to take this opportunity to mention that there are now lots of story threads running throughout The Protectors series. For example, the story arcs relating to the drug Crimson Rush, the human trafficking plotlines, the volatile prejudices that both humans and vampires have.

So that new readers aren’t completely lost, Ms Gabelman weaves the basic details into her books. However, in all honesty, I don’t think that you can read A Warrior Wedding without having read the previous books first. Too much has happened and there are lots of characters to get your head around.

So, basically what I’m saying is…

Loved it – couldn’t stop reading this novella!

It had everything that I look for in a 5-star story; intelligent writing style that’s easy to read, main characters with a depth of personality, great supporting cast, believable background story/setting and a balanced mix of relationship and/or romance to action scenes and sex scenes.

I was left breathless, wondering where Ms Gabelman would take us next in this addictive series!

Content Warning:

This book has graphic violence and explicit sex as well as some darker themes. Therefore, I’d only recommend this book to adults who are OK reading material of this nature.

I’d recommend A Warrior Wedding to existing fans of this series. Readers who want their heroes to be strong alphas and their heroines to be independent, capable women. Plots that are emotional, tense and often traumatic with brutal confrontations as well as hot passionate lust and romance.
