Hello, fellow romance fans. Today, I’d like to share my thoughts about Ares by Felicity Heaton. The first book in her new adult paranormal romance series, Guardians of Hades. My thanks to Felicity for the advanced ebook.
What’s Ares about?

What did I like about Ares?
I’m already a big fan of Ms Heaton’s other series and love her writing style! Her world-building is amazing. It’s her mix of fantasy and reality that captures my attention right from the start. Her characters are never black or white, good or evil but a complex mix of positive and negative traits and emotions which they either have to embrace or overcome. Ares and Megan are no exception.
I’ve already mentioned in previous reviews, how I love the way Felicity makes the most explicit sexual scenes very romantic. I think she’s a very talented writer. For me, a story is only really erotic if I’m emotionally connected to the characters involved. Felicity gives her characters such depth that they do become real. However it’s not just her main characters that benefit from this attention to detail. All of her characters are complex, multifaceted and completely believable. She gives them very real human virtues and foibles even though most of them are mythical, paranormal beings.
We’ve been introduced to all the brothers in this book as well as Hades and Persephone. I enjoyed learning a bit about them all. However, I’m looking forward to getting to know them all throughout this series. This story made me giggle, gasp in shock and shed a tear or two. Of course, I got caught up with the passion (who wouldn’t *blush*). However the tender insights into both Ares’ and Megan’s doubts, their feelings of “relationship unworthiness” was beautiful. Plus the growth of their trust in each other’s love was also heart-warming to read.
Was there anything I disliked about it?
Absolutely nothing! (Hence the 5 star review) 😉
This is the first book in a new series, and as such, you must expect a loose end or two. However, for those of you like me who HATE huge cliffhangers, rest assured, Felicity doesn’t leave us hanging. The immediate threat is dealt with. The romance aspect between Ares and Megan is happily concluded in Felicity’s signature style.
Basically, what I’m saying is…
I really loved this paranormal romance tale. Ares is a great read that made me smile, cry and feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I loved the well written erotic thrills and heart-pumping fight scenes. Plus my old romantic heart loved all the gallant romantic gestures.
Warning:
This book contains graphic violence and explicit sexual content – it’s definitely steamy. Therefore I’d recommend this book to adults who are OK reading content of a mature nature.
If you enjoy reading stories about the battle between following your duty or letting your your heart lead the way. Stories about inner strength and the lengths we go to for our siblings and those we love. And finally, you’ll love Ares if you adore soul saving love and tales with oodles of fire and passion.
