Damon is a paranormal romance and the first book (approx 286 pages) in Teresa Gabelman’s highly popular series, The Protectors. The series is about an elite group of vampire warriors who protect innocents, whether human or those of their own race on behalf of the Vampire Council. Each book tells the story about a different VC Warrior finding his mate. This story is set a year after the vampire race have come out and takes place in Cincinnati, USA.
So, what did I like about Damon?
I found this book very easy to read due to Teresa Gabelman’s writing style; the plot was gripping, the pace was fast but never felt rushed and I was drawn in with believable main characters & a fantastic array of supporting cast (both human & vampire) that has left me wanting to read more of their adventures.
The paranormal world Ms Gabelman has created was interesting. I’m looking forward to finding out more about the Vampire Council and the warriors that enforce their laws. I think that the fact that the vampire race had only made themselves known to us a year ago added an edge to the plot.
The first chapter was fantastic; I loved the banter (which happily continues throughout) and although I had moments of reluctance – I find stories about children being abused very, very hard to deal with – I loved Nicole Callahan and the way her “unscheduled home visit” to rescue little 8year old Sam was written.
Those of you that have read my review before, will know that I enjoy a story more if the lead female character is intelligent, resilient and has a good sense of humour that’s similar to my own and I wasn’t disappointed here. Nicole is everything that I look for in a lead female character; tough, witty, able to hold her own and a strong moral compass that makes her fight for the underdog.
I loved that this book had me blubbering like a baby and laughing my socks off, although it horrified and shocked me too and got my blood boiling but it definitely hit all the right spots passion-wise *blush* and warmed my old romantic heart.
So, um, was there anything I disliked about it?
As this is the first book in a series, I was prepared for the story to have some cliffhangers, especially regarding the mystery of who was using the children to supply Crimson Rush, however, hand on heart I can say that I am satisfied with how this book ended; the conclusion to both the romance aspect and the Crimson Rush supplier mystery.
So, basically what I’m saying is…
Wow! I feel breathless – what an amazing paranormal romance story. It’s got everything that I’m looking for in a 5 star read; mystery, action, romance, passion and plenty of well written steamy sex scenes. Couldn’t stop reading this book!
My thoughts about the narration (2018).
Fantastically Gripping Story.
I have already read and reviewed the Kindle version of this book (gave it 5-stars) and am a big fan of Teresa Gabelman’s writing style and The Protectors series. As a new Audible member, I want to say how impressed I was with the reading from Jeffrey Kafer. His timing and performance plunged me into this story feet first.
This book has graphic violence and explicit sex as well as some darker themes. Therefore, I’d only recommend this book to adults who are OK reading material of this nature.
I’d recommend Damon to adults who love reading relationship and romance stories with gritty plots and lots of passion.
