Hello Avid Readers. Today I’m sharing my thoughts about Swim Deeper by T. S. Joyce. The first book in her adult paranormal romance series, Keepers of the Swamp.
T.S. Joyce is another attending author at RARE19 in London who is new-to-me, which is why I sought out her books. I am so glad I did and I can’t wait to meet her in a couple of weeks. 🙂
Sometimes, when I read a book I don’t write a full review, I just write a paragraph or two to publish on Amazon and Goodreads; especially if it’s a book with thousands of reviews already. But I want to build up my blog to be THE place to go to for paranormal romance fans, so I should really post those smaller reviews on here too, right?

Reporter, Bre Hayne, is on the hunt for a story. Finally, her big career break has fallen into her lap, and she has chance to get the scoop on one of the notoriously private shifters. Not many of them exist, but one Holt Lachlan has put an ad out for a mate, and Bre is up for the challenge. She’ll pretend to be interested, gather intel on him, and then scoot out of Uncertain, Texas just as fast as her old junker truck can speed her back to the news station. But the deeper into the story she goes, the more she realizes maybe Holt isn’t the one who is the monster. Maybe it’s her.
Alligator shifter, Holt Lachlan, is the center of an unfortunate legend. His family name has been tarnished by these swamps for generations, and he has to go outside of the town to try and find a mate. Desperate for something to occupy his inner animal, he meets up with a spunky beauty named Bre, and tells her the rules. The most important rule? Pretend he’s normal. Ignore the growling, don’t pay attention to his eye color, and definitely don’t go anywhere near the waters of Uncertain’s swamp at night. He’s protective of his territory, but the more he gets to know the bold and beguiling woman who has answered his ad, the more he thinks she just might survive his dark secrets…but will he survive hers?
Content Warning: Explicit love scenes, naughty language, and piles of sexy shifter secrets. Intended for mature audiences.
What did I think about Swim Deeper?
T. S. Joyce is a new-to-me author but I really enjoyed this book. I found her writing style easy to read and although the romantic plot-line is a tried and trusted trope – no real surprises here – I was still captivated by both our heroine, desperate journalist, Amanda and Holt our grouchy but misunderstood hero and was completely invested in their story.
Yes, this is a quick read. However, I still found myself holding my breath during some fraught scenes, tears trickled down my cheeks reading some beautifully touching scenes, I was chuckling out loud at the abundant humour, going all mushy at the romantic gestures and all pink-faced and tingly with the sexual anticipation and sex scenes.
Although this novella is the start of a series about the shifters of Uncertain, Texas, it could be read as a standalone. My interest in the world and the characters Ms Joyce created here has been piqued and as the whole series can be read for free using my Kindle Unlimited subscription, I will be adding more to my Amazon wish list.
Keep reading to find out more about this series and its author.
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read my mini-review. I hope I’ve sparked your interest in Swim Deeper, it’s a great, quick read.
Bye for now,
