Hello, my lovelies. Today, not only am I crying over celebrating my daughter’s 18th Birthday but Flora’s Musings is celebrating 🦇 Occult Day 2020! 🦇

I only learned about this special themed day myself last year from fellow blogger Elaine @ Literary Blogger. I read her Occult Day post and was amazed that I hadn’t heard about it before. Well, I suppose my mind has been focused on mini-Flora’s birthday.

However, as a reader of paranormal romances, I’m a bit embarrassed that Occult Day isn’t on my blogging calendar. Well, it will be from now on. 😉

What will I focus on for Occult Day 2020?

In honour of my daughter’s birthday, this year I’m focusing on her favourite supernatural beings – 🧛 Vampires! 🧛

Now, as a reader of paranormal romance and urban fantasy, bloodsuckers feature prominently on my shelves. Therefore, I’ve got some great books and series to recommend.

Every time we pop into town, she makes a beeline to Waterstones to check out the manga section. 😉 She loves this series and not only reads the manga but watches the anime too – in Japanese!

My Vampire Recommendations

Let’s start with some standalone vampire romance books. Of course, I’m going to start with my favourite adult paranormal romance author – Felicity Heaton.

If you prefer to get your teeth stuck into a series, 😉 I’d recommend Immortal Guardians by Dianne Duvall.

The Immortal Guardians series by Dianne Duvall

Featured Immage - Immortal Guardians series by Dianne Duvall (2021)

Immortal Guardians series sits in the paranormal romance genre. However, it could also sit happily on an urban fantasy shelf due to much of the content. Set in our modern human world, it features a new twist on the vampire genre.

Immortals and vampires are both infected with the same virus, which lends them dramatically increased strength, speed, healing capabilities and enhanced senses. Vampires are humans who have been infected, whereas Immortals are Gifted Ones who have been infected. Gifted Ones are men and women who were born with extremely advanced DNA that lends them special gifts, such as healing, telepathy, precognition and the like. Vampires rapidly descend into madness when the virus damages their brains but Immortals don’t; their advanced DNA protects them from that aspect of the virus.

Thanks for visiting Flora’s Musings and celebrating Occult Day 2020 with me. I had lots of fun writing this post (and browsing Etsy 😉 ) and will definitely write another post next year!

Many of my favourite authors write fantastic stories about vampires, ghosts, werewolves and witches. Before you go, check out if YOUR favourite author one of my favourites. 😉

About Me

I'm in my late forties, my interests are varied but since menopause hit a few years ago, I find myself becoming a "grumpy old woman" all too frequently - where has my infinite patience gone!?! Lol!
I bought a Kindle in the summer of 2013 and haven't stopped reading since. If you want to know more about me, check out my blog -

  1. Happy birthday to your daughter! I had no idea Occult day was a thing! May I also recommend the Vampire Huntress Universe By Jeaniene Frost? It’s classic in the vampire UF genre for me ♡

    1. Thanks Mikky. I know! Occult day is definitely going to be an annual thing on Flora’s Musings from now on.
I know we have very similar tastes, so I’ll certainly check out the Vampire Huntress books. Thanks Mikky. x

  2. Happy birthday to mini Flora
When it comes to vampires, I was a big fan of the Anita Blake series, though I haven’t kept up. When it comes to witches, my favourite series is the Hollows from Kim Harrison.

    1. Aww, thanks Shelleyrae. She had a great day. I haven’t read either of those. Thanks for the recommendations.
