How I’m staying sane during lockdown ~ Top 5 Tuesday

Header - Top 5 Tuesdays

Hello, my lovelies. Today, I’m sharing how I’m staying sane during lockdown.

It’s Tuesday, so it’s time for another Top 5 Tuesday post. Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm. Luckily, Shanah comes up with the topics a month at a time so that we’ve got some thinking space.  Due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, Shanah decided to change things up this month because she says: “we all need to smile, laugh, be motivated, and have something to look forward to.” You’re not wrong, Shanah.

If you’re interested in participating in Top 5 Tuesday, all you have do is write up your post and pingback to one of Shanah’s posts. Make sure you pingback to her post and not just her blog so she can add you to the list of participants.

So on to this week, as you may guess from the title, Shanah has come up with the topic –

Although I am a teaching assistant and classed as a “key worker“, I’ve actually been off work poorly for the last couple of weeks (not virus connected 😷) and now the school is on Easter holidays for two weeks and my head teacher said for me to stay home although the school is open. But after that, all the staff are on a rota so I’ll be working for either 1 day a week or 2 days every fortnight.

I’ve been a bookworm all my life and I’ve gotta be honest, I thought being on lockdown would be fabulous, an excuse to devour my TBR pile. However, I’ve got to admit that it’s not as great as I thought it would be. I’ve been on Twitter a lot and know that I’m not the only bookworm who feels like this. Having my family home, the days are beginning to blend into one that I have to look at my phone to check what day it is! 😂

I 💜 love 💜 this week’s topic, and agree with Shanah that we all need a little distraction, something to bring a smile to our faces and a reason to see the glass half full and think of the positives of being in isolation and the SANITY SAVERS that bring us joy! 😵🤪 🥰

OK, so without further ado, here are the things that keep me going during this surreal time …

OK, so you must have known that books would be on this list! 🤣😂🤣 I’ve always got my tablet with me, it’s got the Kindle and Audible apps loaded on it and I use them EVERY DAY. 😘 What I hadn’t counted on, was my feelings of meh when picking up some of the books on my TBR pile. I’ve found myself rereading (and re-listening to) my favourites more often too, like Teresa Gabelman’s The Protectors, Dianne Duvall’s Immortal Guardians and K.F. Breene’s Warrior Chronicles.

My Family.

I 💜 LOVE 💜 having Hubby and my two girls home, although they are 17 and 15 so I’m not sure if I see any more of my girls than usual. 😂 Hubby isn’t a big reader and is keeping himself busy with pottering about in our garden. However, I have made progress with him; I bought him a book at Christmas – Dark Knights by Robert L Bryan – which he picked up this week and has been reading today. 🥳 What I’m loving is having everyone home for lunch AND dinner, the jokes we’re sharing, the games we’re playing and the time we’re sharing being together.

My Telly

Hubby and I always record numerous TV programmes each week, from sitcoms to documentaries, to watch without the adverts. 😉 We’re slowly making our way through all of them and even finding some new shows to record. At the moment, the programmes on our Sky planner include: Friday Night Dinner, Railway Journeys with Michael Portillo, Modern Family, Shakespeare & Hathaway, Secrets of the Museum, Magnum P.I., This Country, Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year and Richard Osman’s House of Games, to name just a few. 😉

We’ve also been re-watching some old favourites like Miranda, Friends and Midsomer Murders and most days we watch a couple of films. So far, we’ve re-watched all the Harry Potters and Marvel Universe films. We’re also making the most of our Netflix subscription; the girls love all the anime, I binge-watched Limitless and we can’t wait until the next season of Lucifer starts next month!

Social Media

As I’ve already said, I’ve been hanging around Twitter and Facebook fairly regularly. Facebook is where I find all the memes I share in my monthly Wrap Up posts; my friends and the groups I belong to are always posting things that bring a smile to my face and my friends are always there when I need them (of course it works both ways). The book blogging community on Twitter is AMAZING 🤩 they are a wonderfully inclusive, supportive bunch and I love spending online time with them.

This blog!

I love this blog; it’s become a big part of my life. I’ve already managed to write some reviews and have scheduled lots of posts for the coming weeks (and months). I actually published my 1000th post this week! 🥳 I love taking part in the regular memes and visiting other bloggers and I can’t wait to read what you’ve all put as your Sanity Savers. 😍

Well, that’s it for me but what about you? What’s keeping you sane and giving you joy while stuck at home?

Thanks for stopping by and, once again, taking the time to read my post. Now that you’ve read mine, why not hop along to some of the other amazing blogs taking part in this week’s Top 5 Tuesday.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your week, stay safe & healthy and read (or listen to) some fantastic books.

Bye for now.

About Me

I'm in my late forties, my interests are varied but since menopause hit a few years ago, I find myself becoming a "grumpy old woman" all too frequently - where has my infinite patience gone!?! Lol!
I bought a Kindle in the summer of 2013 and haven't stopped reading since. If you want to know more about me, check out my blog -

  1. All of those things are helping to keep me sane as well, as is spending time with my pets and taking my dog out on long, socially-distanced walks.

  2. hehe I’m relying on all of these too!

  3. I know exactly what you mean. Lockdown I thought, ooo loads of reading. Umm no, I was so wrong. Wjat with school work, working from home and having the concentration span of a knat, I’ve not hardly read anything!!!!

But I did get Disney+ so I’ve watched quite a few films!!!

  4. The stay at home command is definitely an interesting challenge. Glad you’re feeling better now.
