Monthly Wrap Up

October 2020 Monthly Wrap Up

Featured Image - Monthly Wrap Up - October (2020)

Hello, my lovelies and welcome to my October 2020 monthly wrap up post.

What have I been up to this month?

We’ve been on school half-term holidays for the last week and a bit. But it’s Back To School next week. It’s certainly been a strange start to the school year however, I think we’re getting into a good (safe) routine with the kids now.

Coronavirus COVID-19 is sweeping the world and here in England we’re doing our best to follow government guidelines. But I don’t want to dwell on the virus.

Our eldest daughter will be 18 next month. Where the bloody hell did those years go?! 😉 Due to restrictions, we won’t be doing anything BIG for her, but luckily she was never one for parties anyway.

My experiences of being a self-hosted blog with ChemiCloud are still positive. Go check them out. Their 65% discount means their plans start at just 2.76 per month! If you use my link, I’ll get a little referrer fee credited to my account. 💜

Back in August, I downloaded the Ultimate Book Blogger plugin by Ashley @ NoseGraze. (Thanks again to Kimberley @ Caffeinated Reviewer for the referral.) I’ve been working through my existing reviews and adding the UBB element to the posts. While I’m at it, I’m also making them SEO friendly. All this behind-the-scenes maintenance is time-consuming, so I apologise now for my lack of communication this month. However, I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel.

While I’m making all these changes, please let me know if any pages, posts or links throughout Flora’s Musings either don’t open or you have problems with.

💜💚💜 Hello lovely followers! 💜💚💜

Thank You - My Follower Count 475+

As you might remember, this year I’m tracking my follower count. Flora’s Musings has now surpassed the 475 followers mark and, as I type this, there are now 483 of you! That’s flippin’ amazing! Once I’ve completed my behind-the-scenes maintenance, I’ll be better at returning comments and joining in with the blogging community fun!

What have I been posting?

Now on with the rest of my September 2020 monthly wrap up post. Feel free to click on anything that you missed this month.

Book Birthdays

I’ve been celebrating some wonderful 🥳 New Releases 🥳

No posts found.

📚 Book Reviews 📚

And, of course, this being a book blog, I shared my thoughts about some books I read this month:

~ Full Reviews and Mini Reviews ~

I’ve also been sharing the ❤️ love ❤️ for my fellow bloggers with a few other bits and bookish bobs. 😉

No posts found.

That’s it for my October 2020 Monthly Wrap Up. However, moving forward, what can you expect from me in November?

~ Coming up on Flora’s Musings ~

  • Celebrating more New Book Releases.
  • Hopefully some author interviews, cover reveals, book tours and spotlight posts.
  • and of course, lots of book reviews!
My Current Reading Challenges (2)

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I take part in the Goodreads Annual Reading Challenge but I also join in with other reading challenges. I thought that I’d use these regular wrap up posts to update you on my progress in all the challenges that I’m taking part in …

My time has been spent on the behind-the-scenes admin for Flora’s Musings, therefore, I haven’t taken part in any new Goodreads group monthly reading challenges for months. BUT. I have signed up to two annual challenges this year outside of Goodreads. Bloody hell, what was I thinking!! 😂 🤦‍♀️ 😂

🎧 2020 Audiobook Challenge 🎧

Audiobook challenge 2020 graphic

I’ve been listening to more and more audiobooks each year, so decided to take advantage of my growing addiction interest. 😉 I think I’ve been doing quite well so far. Check out my progress on My Audiobook Challenge 2020 page.

🏁 Finishing The Series Challenge 🏁

This year, I was lamenting over how many unfinished series were on my TBR pile. Therefore, I joined the Celebrity Readers’ challenge to help. Check out my slow but steady progress on Finishing The Series Reading Challenge 2020 page.

~ The ARCs Still On My Shelf ~

Like so many of you, I use my blog to review ARCs (Advance or Early Reader Copy). Book, ebooks and audiobooks that I receive from authors or publishers. I’m registered on NetGalley and I’ve just signed up to BookSirens. Do any of you get books from BookSirens?

Check out my current ARCs calendar. I think my monthly commitments are looking good.

ARCS on my shelf - September 2020
~ ARCs Yet To Read ~
  • September Releases ~ Daimon (29th)
  • October Releases ~ A Witchy Influence (1st), Guardian’s Grace (13th)
  • November Releases ~ nothing yet!
  • December Releases ~ nothing yet!

Have you read any of these books? Drop me a comment and we’ll chat.

I’ve managed to stick to my ARC Requests Plan! Limiting myself to only requesting a couple per month and trying to ensure the release dates are spread out. My ARC TBR pile is now happily under control! 😇

Thank you to the wonderful authors, publishers, tour organisers, BookSirens and NetGalley. The opportunity you give me to read books and feed my addiction is more than appreciated! 😉

I’ve been linking up to The Sunday Post which is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. Today, I’m also linking up to the Monthly Wrap-Up Round-Up co-hosted by the fabulous Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction and Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight.

  1. Happy birthday coming up to your daughter! I have one who turned 18 recently as well so I can relate- the time flies!

I hope your reads are all good this week!

    1. Thanks Greg. Where have our babies gone, eh?! Lol!
Hope November is proving to be a great reading month for you too.

  2. It’s weird how quickly the time goes by with kids! Glad to hear your daughter didn’t miss not having a big party. The world situation sucks for extroverts right now. I enjoyed Iron Druid series. Glad to see you loved Hunted. Happy reading and thanks for visiting my SS.

    1. Flora says:

Thanks Rachel. I hope to finish Iron Druid before the end of the year. Have you read Ink & Sigil yet?
      Have a great week x

  3. I love the challenges you are participating in and you’ve been making progress. I remember when I switched to self-hosting and added UBB. I spent a lot of time getting old reviews into the system, about 30 -50 per week 4EVER! LOL.

Happy 18th BD to your daughter. Be safe Flora!

    1. Flora says:

I’m really loving the Audiobook challenge, Kimberly. I’ve got the audio bug! Lol!
Yes, UBB is great but I’m impatient with how long it’s taking to add my old reviews into it! Lol! I want to get that done before the end of the year.
You stay safe too, Kimberly. Have a good week. x

  4. You picked some great challenges and are really keeping on top of your ARCs. I also use UBB and it certainly has made it easier for me to setup my posts. Have a lovely week!

    1. Flora says:

Thanks Anne. Being a book blogger is an exercise in trial and error. Lol! I’m loving the UBB plugin and have been keeping away from NetGalley so that I’m not tempted to request more books than I can handle at the moment.
Hope you have a lovely week, Anne. x

  5. I use UBB and love it. Hope you do too!

    1. Thanks Nicole, yes it’s fab. Ashley is a kind and clever lady to have created it for us. I’m hoping to have all of my old book reviews updated with it by the end of the year.

  6. Wow you have been busy and congrats on the followers! Happy 18th to your daughter, having a birthday in lockdown does suck, mine was earlier on in the year.

    1. Thanks Caro. Covid19 has scuppered a lot of people’s plans this year. I’m doubtful that this current lockdown will end on 2nd December. I think we’ll just have to write off 2020! Lol!

      1. I think you’re right, I’d be surprised if it did finish then. Roll on 2021!!!

        1. hear-hear! I’ll drink to that! Lol!

          1. I’ll join you in the bevvy!

  7. I love the UBB! I honestly can’t love without it.
I think the world is going into round 2 of COVID.

I hope you have a great week, Flora! Happy Reading!

    1. UBB is turning out to be one of my best investments for the blog. It’s just taking ages to update all my old posts onto it so that my review achieves work.
Hope you have a great week too, Michelle. x

  8. Congrats on a great month! You’ve done great work!

I went on a request binge on Netgalley that I’m now regretting, I didn’t expect so many approvals.

    Kids grow up so fast!

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. Thanks Shelleyrae. Lol! Hope you enjoy the fruits of your Netgalley binge! Have a great week. x

  9. It’s crazy when our kids become young adults. I know exactly how you feel! (((BIG HUGS)))
    Happy November!

    1. Thanks Freda, you too x

  10. Sho – That looks like a really busy month!
    Congrats on the followers 🙂

Thanks for visiting. It didn’t feel too busy but it does look a lot when collated in the monthly wrap-up! Lol!

  11. Izabel Brekilien says:

Oh my, you’ve been doing a lot ! Have fun with the new plugin – I have to say i love your blog design,it’s nice to see some colour when all the blogs usually look more or less the same 🙂 Have a great week and stay safe !

    1. Flora says:

Hi Izabel. Thanks for visiting and thank you for your kind comments. Although I’m sometimes tempted to go “on-trend”, I love the green too much to lose it.
Hope you have a great weekend too. x
