What did I think about it?
I really enjoyed this book!
William Massa is still a relatively new-to-me author. I read his Dracula based crime thriller (Fear The Light) last year and really enjoyed it.
Massa’s writing style is intelligent but easy to read. He has a good understanding of how to create an engaging story and obviously carries out hours of research. However, I never felt bogged down in background information. Massa allows his readers to get to know the characters he creates – he shows us their personalities.
The pace of Apocalypse Soldier was fast – I felt like I was holding my breath the whole time – but without feeling rushed. The plot was able to develop, we were able to get to know our main character, Mark Talon, better and were given background & insights into the other characters featured in this action-horror tale.
My only niggle is the way the same scene is replayed by different characters throughout this book. It’s great getting a new perspective on what is happening. However, at times it almost deflated my anticipation and/or adrenaline level.
This is the second book in William Massa’s Occult Assassin series. However, I don’t think you have to have read the previous book to engage with this one.
I’m really enjoying the Occult Assassin series. I can’t wait to read more.
If William Massa is new for you too, keep reading to find out more him.
Thanks for taking the time to read this mini-review for Apocalypse Soldier. I really appreciate it. Now, go buy it! 😉
