Flora Reviews… Craved by an Alpha (Eternal Mates #5) by Felicity Heaton
I read Hunted by a Jaguar for the first time in 2015. However I wasn’t really writing proper reviews way back then. Therefore, I thought that I’d re-read it and write a proper review and share it with you today.
Read: 13th – 14th February 2015
Re-Read: 5th – 9th November 2017
My Goodreads Rating: 5 Stars
So what’s this book about?
Craved by an Alpha is the fifth paranormal romance novel (approx 124 pages) in this series. There will be 15 books in the Eternal Mates series by the end of 2017. This story is about cat shapeshifters and is the fifth book in Ms Heaton’s Eternal Mates series –
The Eternal Mates world is the same as Ms Heaton’s London Vampires series. However, you don’t need to read any of the previous books in either series to enjoy Craved by an Alpha. It works very well as a standalone story. I can also confirm that the romance aspect of this tale is concluded by the end of the book in Ms Heaton’s signature Happy Ever After style, so no nasty cliffhangers. Woop!
I write about how the story was told in my reviews rather than the plot itself. Consequently they don’t contain spoilers or reveal plot twists. Here’s what the official blurb has to say about the story.
New York Times and USA Today Best-Selling Paranormal Romance Author Felicity Heaton presents:
Craved by an Alpha (Eternal Mates Paranormal Romance Series Book 5)
Having turned his back on his snow leopard pride, Cavanaugh has been counting the days until he’s free of a role he never wanted—one that separated him from his fated female and stands between him and the future he craves with her.
Just days from the night he will finally be free to be with the low-ranking beauty who stole his heart, she walks back into his life and threatens to destroy everything he’s worked towards in the five long years they’ve been apart.
Eloise has travelled across continents searching for the male who was once her best friend and so much more to her, but was now her pride’s true alpha. Desperate to fulfil a promise to her kin to save them from the tyrant he left in charge, she convinces Cavanaugh to return to his pride, but as they journey to Bhutan, doubts bloom and old feelings resurface, tearing her between duty and her deepest desires and impossible dreams.
Will Eloise be able to resist the burning need that Cavanaugh reignites in her and remember her place in the pride? And can Cavanaugh find a way to save his kin and claim the future he craves with the woman he loves?
So, what did I like about it?
I am already a fan of Ms Heaton’s writing style (I think I might have mentioned that before. lol!); it’s the way she creates a very believable paranormal world and then filling it with complex, multifaceted characters and weaves their stories around a background arc with such depth that it just draws me in. Craved by an Alpha does not disappoint.
I enjoyed the dilemma aspect of this tale – following your heart or carrying out your duty – which Ms Heaton gives us here; both Cavanaugh and Eloise feel the weight of putting their pride before their own happiness.
I was already a bit of a Cavanaugh fan (there are scenes throughout the Eternal Mates books take place in Underworld, the nightclub that he works in) but I loved getting beneath that hard, stoic exterior. Eloise is exactly what I want from a main female character; resilient, intelligent, funny and loyal! Fabulous!
I need to confess that one of the reasons why I love Ms Heaton’s books so much is the sex; she makes the most explicit sexual scenes very romantic (I think that it takes a very talented writer to accomplish this), these erotic interludes are balanced really well with beautifully written imagery and poignant internal dialogue from our main romantic pair. Ms Heaton gives her characters such depth that they become real, I found myself getting caught up with the passion (who wouldn’t!) but the tender insights into Cavanaugh and Eloise’s inner fears and emotional turmoil throughout this book was heart-warming to read.
I shed a tear or two during the tender/sad scenes and I was titillated during the sex scenes but these were balanced nicely with the fighting and action scenes that fed my adrenalin fix; yes, I was gripped and couldn’t stop reading!
So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?
So, basically what I’m saying is…
*sigh* What an wonderful paranormal romance story. It’s got everything that I’m looking for in a book; action, romance, passion and plenty of well written steamy sex scenes. Couldn’t stop reading this book!
There are scenes of explicit sexual content and graphic violence in this book. Therefore, I’d only recommend it to adults who aren’t offended by scenes of this sort.
I’d recommend Craved by an Alpha to adults who are fans of relationship and romance stories. Especially if you prefer books with a bit of fire and passion.
