book cover for Blood Prince 4 - Divine Scales by Jennifer Blackstream

Hello Avid Readers. Today, I’m sharing my thoughts about Divine Scales by Jennifer Blackstream. Book 4 in her bestselling paranormal romance series, Blood Prince.

Last year, I decided that mini reviews were the way forward for this particular book blogger. 😉 This means that I only write detailed reviews for the books I receive from authors, publishers and PR organiser (ARCs).

On to my review. I actually read this back in March 2019. However I didn’t post my review here so I’m remedying that right now.

The fates of a warrior angel and a bespelled mermaid are forever entangled in the fourth Blood Prince series novel by bestselling author Jennifer Blackstream.

A warrior with a hunger for sin...
Driven by a terrible hunger for the black souls of evil men, Patricio, divine executioner of the gods, patrols the kingdom with blood on his hands and ice in his heart. The families of his victims sing his praises--the result of a witch's cruel curse that condemns him to be forever surrounded by false adulation. When the curse sours the first hint at romance Patricio has had since becoming the king's heir, his rage is all consuming. Disgusted, he leaves the mermaid in the sea and returns to the palace...only to be shocked when she bargains for the legs to follow him.

A mermaid out of her element...
Marcela's world has been turned upside-down--literally. Once a proud member of her father King Triton's royal guard, she's now the victim of an angel's curse. Enchanted into false adoration bordering on obsession, she traded her tail--and her voice--to the sea witch for the legs she needed to pursue the object of her desire. In a cruel twist of fate, the very magic that gave her the means to pursue her passion also broke the spell that caused it. Now she's in the angel's arms, but how can either of them trust the desire churning inside them when so much magic has muddied the waters?
Will this little mermaid survive following her heart out of the water? Or will the prince's would-be fiancee send her back into the sea... forever?

What Did I Think About Divine Scales?

Another Classic Fairytale Gets The Blackstream Treatment!

I am already a fan of Ms Blackstream’s writing style. Loving how she creates new and exciting stories from well loved tales. This time it was the classic Hans Christian Anderson’s The Little Mermaid.

I loved this story. Both the original and this retelling.

I downloaded the narration of this book too. Once again, Matt Addis’ performance was amazing. The pace of reading transported me to the scenes and his tonal characters’ variations brought them to life. He is a talented voice actor and I would happily buy books narrated by him in the future.

Content Warning:

There are scenes of explicit sexual content and graphic violence in this book. Therefore, I’d only recommend it to adults who aren’t offended by scenes of this sort.

I’d recommend Divine Scales to adults who enjoy reading romance stories about soul-saving love.

Keep reading to find out more about the Blood Prince series and its author.

About Jennifer Blackstream

Author - Jennifer Blackstream

Jennifer Blackstream is a USA Today bestselling author of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. She is amazed and grateful to have made a writing career out of a Master’s degree in Psychology, hours of couch-detecting watching Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, and endless research into mythology and fairy tales. She firmly believes that whether it’s a village witch deciding she wants to be a private investigator, or a single mother having a go at being a full-time writer, it’s never too late for a new adventure.

A fervent devotee of cooperative board games, Jennifer sets aside at least two nights a week for team-based adventures such as Mice & Mystics, Sentinels of the Multiverse, or Harry Potter: Battle at Hogwarts. She uses games with dice-based mechanics to lure in her ridiculously lucky-rolling son and daughter in the hope that they too will develop a passion for cooperative escapism.
