Hello fellow urban fantasy fans it’s time for another mini review. Today I’d like to share my thoughts about Hexed by Kevin Hearne.
This year, as you may know, I set myself the long overdue challenge of actually finishing some series! 😉 I’m linking up to the 2020 Finishing the Series Reading Challenge. Check out my progress here.
Last year, I decided that mini reviews were the way forward for this particular book blogger. 😉 This means that I only write full detailed reviews for the books (ARCs) I receive from authors, publishers and PR organisers.
Today, I’m so happy to be able to check off another one from my TBR pile. I started The Iron Druid Chronicles back in 2018! Eek!
Hexed (The Iron Druid Chronicles #2) by Kevin Hearne
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, doesn’t care much for witches. Still, he’s about to make nice with the local coven by signing a mutually beneficial nonaggression treaty—when suddenly the witch population in modern-day Tempe, Arizona, quadruples overnight. And the new girls are not just bad, they’re badasses with a dark history on the German side of World War II.
With a fallen angel feasting on local high school students, a horde of Bacchants blowing in from Vegas with their special brand of deadly decadence, and a dangerously sexy Celtic goddess of fire vying for his attention, Atticus is having trouble scheduling the witch hunt. But aided by his magical sword, his neighbor’s rocket-propelled grenade launcher, and his vampire attorney, Atticus is ready to sweep the town and show the witchy women they picked the wrong Druid to hex.
Another Gripping Adventure With This Modern Day Druid.
I am becoming a big fan of Kevin Hearne’s stories. I love his writing style: finding it intelligent, well researched but easy to read. His stories are full of threads but never leave me feeling confused and keep me hooked. There was nothing about this book that I didn’t love!!
I love the characters in this series because they are complex beings created with their own tales and histories, making them all feel so real and believable: I am looking forward to getting to know them all over the course of this series. Oberon, Atticus’ faithful Irish Wolfhound is the BEST, the scenes he’s in just light up my heart.
I think that the story unfolded at a good pace, never giving us any more information than Atticus had, which meant that we journeyed with him, never really knowing when or where the next attack would strike. I loved the action-packed pace of this book, spending most of my time on the edge of my seat. 😉
Hexed is the second book in the Iron Druid Chronicles so a lot has happened. However, Kevin Hearne does a good job of weaving in any pertinent information into the story seamlessly. I didn’t notice any detrimental effects to the flow or pace. Therefore new readers (or us rather forgetful older readers) can enjoy Hexed. PLUS there’s no perilous life-or-death cliffhanger (woop!woop!) so it could be read as a standalone title. However, I’ve become emotionally invested in this series already.
I can’t wait to see what trials and adventures Atticus O’Sullivan and Oberon have to face next!
Buy HEXED (or catch up with the whole series) in print, audio and eBook formats through the usual sources including:

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read my thoughts. I hope I’ve sparked your interest and that you add Hexed to your towering TBR piles. 😉
Bye for now,
