Review: Imitation and Alchemy (Elemental Legacy #0.5) by Elizabeth Hunter

Flora Reviews… Today, I’m sharing my thoughts about Imitation and Alchemy by Elizabeth Hunter. The second prequel novella in her spin-off paranormal mystery series, Elemental Legacy.

…So what’s this book about?

Imitation and Alchemy is a prequel novella (approx 136 pages) in Elizabeth Hunter’s paranormal mystery series, Elemental Legacy.

Ben Vecchio and Tenzin are characters from the Elemental Mysteries quartet (A Hidden Fire #1, This Same Earth #2, The Force of Wind #3 and A Fall of Water #4). However, it is possible to read this spin-off series without having read the Elemental Mysteries books.

The Synopsis

All Ben Vecchio wanted was a quiet summer before his last semester of university. Was that too much to ask?

All Tenzin wanted was a cache of priceless medieval coins that had been missing for several hundred years. And some company.

Phrases like “never again” don’t mean much when you’ve been a vampire for several thousand years. And promises made in the heat of anger don’t outweigh the lure of gold. Ben Vecchio thought he knew everything there was to know about the immortals of Italy. But when Tenzin tempts him into another adventure finding a cache of rare gold coins missing since the nineteenth century, he’ll discover that familiar places can hold the most delicious secrets. And possibly, the key to his future.

…So, what did I like about it?

Loved this novella!

I’m already a fan of Ms Hunter books. Her writing style, the characters she creates, and the way she unfolds her stories to us. Ms Hunter’s style is intelligent with a good balance of backstory, pace, action, suspense and always has me hooked from the first page due to her depth of characters and their believibility.

There wasn’t any thing about this book that I didn’t like. The characters were fantastic, the plot well balanced with action and mystery. Plus there’s a good sprinkling of humour and hints of romance.

Imitation and Alchemy is part of a well established world. Do I think you need to have read the other books to appreciate this one? Possibly not. However, I know that if you haven’t read any of Elizabeth Hunters Elemental books, then you are missing a literary treasure.
