Review: Magical Midlife Madness (Leveling Up #1) by K.F. Breene #PWF #2020AudiobookChallenge

audiobook Magical Midlife Madness by KF Breene narrator Nicole Poole

Hello Avid Readers, it’s time for another mini review, today it’s Magical Midlife Madness by K.F. Breene.

Last year, I decided that mini reviews were the way forward for this particular book blogger. 😉  This means that I only write full detailed reviews for the books I receive from authors, publishers and PR organiser (ARCs).

Ok enough rambling, on with my thoughts about…

What’s Magical Midlife Madness about?

"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of twenty years packs up and heads for greener pastures and my son leaves for college, that's exactly what my life becomes. Do-over.
This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at forty I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills. I'll be taking care of a centuries old house that called to me when I was a kid. It's just temporary, I tell myself. It'll just be for a while. That is, until I learn what the house really is, something I never could've imagined.
Thankfully forty isn't too old to start an adventure, because that's exactly what I do. A very dangerous adventure that will change my life forever. I have a chance to start again, and this time, I make the rules.

Magical Midlife Madness is part of a new reading genre – Paranormal Women’s Fiction or PWF for short. 13 amazing paranormal romanceurban fantasy and paranormal cozy mystery authors have teamed up to write books where the protagonist is a woman in her 40s or older. As a menopausal woman within spitting distance of the big 5-0, I’m overjoyed at this new genre and can’t wait to buy them all! (You can check out the ones I’ve read by following the tag PWF.)

I Couldn’t Stop Reading This Fantastic Book!

I’m already a fan of K. F. Breene’s books and her writing style. Her stories tick every box for me; intelligent writing style that’s easy to read, main characters with depth of personality that I can connect to and believe in, depth of character in the supporting cast, believable background story and setting and a balanced mix of relationship, tension, action, humour and mystery. As a menopausal woman, I love that this series will have an older protagonist and supporting characters.

I’ve listened to audiobooks narrated by Nicole Poole before and I loved her performance in Magical Midlife Madness. The pace that she read the book, how she poured in the relevant emotion for the different scenes was fantastic. There’s a strong core cast of characters in this story. Nicole’s performance brought each of them to life. She showcased their personalities while giving them each suitably different voices when reading the dialogue.

Due to the graphic nature of some violent scenes, I’d recommend this book to adults who are OK reading that sort of thing. If you enjoy second coming-of-age stories for older, independent and capable heroines. Like strong alpha heroes and a generous helping of banter and humour. In addition to realistic issues for the over 40s all within a paranormal adventure, then this book may be your next favourite read. It’s certainly left me wanting to read the next book – Magical Midlife Dating. I’ll also be checking out the other books available in the Paranormal Women’s Fiction (PWF) genre.
