Hello Avid Readers. I want to share my thoughts today about Night Embrace by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Book 3 in the Hunter Legends paranormal romance world.
The Hunter Legends Series (previously named the Entire Dark Hunterverse) has several series that tie-in and overlap the whole series. Those are:
- Dark-Hunters series
- Dream-Hunters series
- Were-Hunters series
- Hellchasers series
- Lords of Avalon series
- Dragons Rising Trilogy series
This series encompasses the entire Hunter Series. For the correct reading order, please visit the author’s site.
Sherrilyn Kenyon was originally one of the attending authors of RARE19 in London therefore I bought half a dozen of the paperbacks in her Dark Hunters series. Unfortunately, due to some terrible things happening in her private life, Sherrilyn had to cancel her visit. 😭 However I’m enjoying this series too much to stop reading them! I hope to meet her one day, should she every come to another signing event in England.
I decided last year that mini reviews were the way forward for this particular book blogger. Therefore I only write full detailed reviews for the books I receive from authors, publishers and PR organiser (ARCs).
So on with my mini review…
So, what did I think about Night Embrace?
I am really pleased that I’ve finally picked up this series; why haven’t before now, I’ll never know. 😉 I love Ms Kenyon’s writing style; the prose she uses, the pace of her plots, the twists and turns she takes us on and how she concludes the main romantic aspect and imminent threats while still leaving some tantalising threads that lure you to keep reading the series.
I did enjoy Night Embrace and thought the story was good.
However, I want to explain why I didn’t rate it as highly as the previous books.
When reading paranormal romance, I need the female protagonist to be intelligent, resilient, resourceful, self-reliant and have plenty of gumption; while Sunshine certainly had all of these traits, there were a few aspects of her personality that irritated me. She was a beautiful soul, empathetic, loving and had a wonderful vitality but it was her hippy idiosyncrasies – flakiness, forgetfulness and less than tolerant issues with food that plagued me.
Talon was a male that ticked all my boxes too; he was definitely alpha, loyal, had depth and deserved the love that Sunshine had for him. Cursed heroes are one of my favourite heroes, but I found myself being more drawn to a couple of the other Dark-Hunters. I want plot twists to surprise me but that’s not essential. I found myself shouting at Talon, rolling my eyes and trying to contain my frustration when he didn’t pick up on the obvious clues: sadly, Talon seemed “all muscles and no brains” at times which was also a major niggle for me.
There are scenes of explicit sexual content and graphic violence in this book. Therefore, I’d only recommend it to adults who aren’t offended by scenes of this sort.
I’d recommend Night Embrace to adults who enjoy romance stories about the complexities of relationships. Especially about trust, loyalty and betrayal and of course, insurmountable odds and soul-saving love.
I am definitely engaged in the Dark-Hunter world. I’ve already bought the next three books in this series and can’t wait to read more.
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read my mini review.
