Quote from Seduced by a Demon King

“I don’t roll with plastic.”

His [Tegan] eyebrows pinched hard, he blinked and locked eyes with her [Suki]. “The shifter said plastic is king. It is not King?”

He definitely didn’t get out of Hell much, if at all.”

My Overall Rating: 5/5

Plot: 5/5 – Flow: 4/5 – Character Development: 5/5 – World Building: 4/5

Seduced by a Demon King is an adult paranormal romance novel (approx 393 pages) in Ms Heaton’s Eternal Mates series. The series is set in the same world as her London Vampires  series. A multitude of different paranormal beings inhabit Ms Heaton’s world. Such as vampires and various species of fae such as elves, incubi and succubi, sirens. Fallen angels as well as heavenly angels, demons, wraiths and phantoms. Magic users such as witches, sorcerers and mages and, of course, shapeshifters of every species imaginable.

I focus my reviews on how the story was told rather than the plot itself. I’m looking at the author’s writing style, how they paced their plots and how well they constructed their characters and setting. Therefore, my reviews don’t contain spoilers or reveal plot twists.

Here’s what the official blurb has to say about the story.

Saddled with a crown he never wanted, King Tegan of the Second Realm of demons is a warrior born for war stuck ruling in a time of peace, bound by the pact that cost his brother his life. Chafed by the ties that have held him shackled to his throne for the last thousand years, Tegan plans an escape from his prison—one stolen night meant to give him a taste of freedom, but one that will lead him to the greatest battle of his life.

A fight to claim the heart of a bewitching fae female who might be his fated mate.

According to many in her clan, and the idiotic incubi who infest the fae town where she lives, Suki puts the suck in succubus. Down on her luck, and in danger of being kicked out of the family she loves, she’s determined to prove her worth by bagging and tagging a powerful male. When she sets eyes on a mysterious, panty-melting demon warrior in a nightclub, things finally seem to be going her way, but his shadowed aura and guardedness warns he won’t be an easy mark.
Seducing him is going to be the fight of her life.

When the battle is done, will the victor have the forever they want, or will this war cost them both everything?

I was given an unedited digital version of this book (eARC) for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not influence or affect this review. This is my candid opinion about the writing style and story.

I’m already a BIG fan of Ms Heaton’s writing style (I think I’ve mentioned this once or twice. 😉 ); It’s the way she creates a very believable paranormal world packing it with multifaceted characters with very real human foibles. Then weaves their stories around an engaging background story that just draws me in. Seduced by a Demon King did not disappoint.

I really liked that this paranormal romance wasn’t easy sailing for either of our characters.

Tegan and Suki both feel the burden of their position. They had to carry the heavy baggage of their past and weighed down by the expectations of those around them. The choice to just be yourself is a luxury that neither of our protagonists has.

I enjoy a story more when the lead female character is intelligent, resilient and can look after herself; I wasn’t disappointed here. Suki is not a kickass fighter, and has many doubts about herself. However shes resourceful, has a great sense of humour and showed her true strength throughout this story. I really enjoyed learning about her life and getting to know her. Hopefully she’ll pop up in future books.

Getting to know what makes King Tegan tick and peeling back the layers of his personality brought him to life.

I’ve got to be honest and confess that I wasn’t sure about our hero to begin with. However as soon as Tegan’s hobby was revealed, I was all in. 😉 In fact, I love that none of the characters in this series are flat 2-dimensional creations; they all feel very real even though most are mythical species.

I need to confess that one of the reasons why I love Ms Heaton’s books so much is the sex. She makes the most explicit sexual scenes very romantic.

I think that it takes a very talented writer to accomplish this. As you can imagine, as our heroine is a succubus, sex plays an important role in this story but the erotic interludes are balanced beautifully with heartfelt, poignant internal dialogue from our main romantic pair. Therefore, it’s these tender insights into Tegan and Suki’s inner fears, their doubts and the emotional turmoil throughout this book that captivated my heart.

There was so much about this story I loved; the romantic gestures and the passion between Suki and Tegan, the edge-of-your-seat fight scenes, the tender/emotional scenes and the sprinkling of humour. I was captivated from the first page to the last and couldn’t stop reading!

I have rated this book 5 stars, which means that there wasn’t anything in this story that took the shine off my enjoyment enough to lose a star over.

As with all of the books in this series, the romance aspect between Tegan and Suki is concluded by the end of the book in Ms Heaton’s signature Happy Ever After style, so no nasty cliffhangers wondering will they, won’t they? Woop! Woop! Having said that, there are story threads running in the background that tie in with the series as a whole.

Ms Heaton weaves any relevant information into this story meaning that you don’t need to read any of the previous books in either the Eternal Mates series or London Vampires series to enjoy this one.

However, I would like to say that as with most books within a well established series, reading Seduced by a Demon King as a standalone story means that you might lack that deeper connection to the supporting characters and will not have an innate understanding of those background story threads and the knock-on implications to the Eternal Mates world as a whole if you’re jumping straight in.

I really loved this paranormal romance story!

It’s got everything that I look for in a 5 star read; action, romance, humour, passion and well written erotic sex scenes. I didn’t want to put this book down!

Content Warning:

There are scenes of explicit sexual content and graphic violence in this book. Therefore, I’d only recommend it to adults who aren’t offended by scenes of this sort.

I’d recommend Seduced by a Demon King to adults who are fans of relationship and romance tales with oodles of fire and passion.
