Dark-Hunter: an immortal warrior who has traded his soul to Artemis for one moment of vengeance on his enemies. In return, they swear to spend eternity protecting mankind from the daimons and vampires that prey on them.
Valerius isn't a popular Dark-Hunter - he's a Roman, which means that the largely Greek Hunters have a major grudge against him and his civilization for superceding them. To make things worse, he's very conscious of his aristocratic background and breeding.
So it serves him right when he runs into Tabitha Devereaux.
She's sassy, sexy, and completely unwilling to take him seriously. (Not to mention Tabitha is also the sister-in-law of Kyrian, a former Dark-Hunter and Val's mortal enemy.) What Tabitha does take seriously is hunting and killing vampires-and soon she and Val have to grapple with the deadliest of all Daimons - one who's managed to come back from the dead, and one who holds a serious grudge against both of them.
To win against evil, Val will have to loosen up, learn to trust, and put everything on the line to protect a man he hates and a woman who drives him nuts.
The Hunter Legends Series (previously named the Entire Dark Hunterverse) has several series that tie-in and overlap the whole series. Those are:
- Dark-Hunters series
- Dream-Hunters series
- Were-Hunters series
- Hellchasers series
- Lords of Avalon series
- Dragons Rising Trilogy series
This series encompasses the entire Hunter Series. For the correct reading order, please visit the author’s site.
Sherrilyn Kenyon was originally one of the attending authors of RARE19 in London and so I bought half a dozen of the paperbacks in her Dark Hunters series. Unfortunately, due to some terrible things happening in her private life, Sherrilyn had to cancel her visit.
However I’m enjoying this series too much to stop reading them! I hope to meet her one day, should she every come to another signing event in England.
I decided last year that mini reviews were the way forward for me. Therefore I only write full detailed reviews for the books I receive from authors, publishers and PR organiser (ARCs).
So on with my mini review…
So, what did I think about Seize the Night?
Another Gripping Adventure in the Dark-Hunter World.
I can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying this series! I love Ms Kenyon’s writing style; the prose she uses, the pace of her plots and the twists & turns and how she concludes the romantic aspects of her tales while still leaving some tantalising threads that tempt you into buying the next book. Seize the Night was was no exception.
When reading paranormal romance, I need my main female character to exhibit certain personality traits. Intelligent, resilience, resourcefulness, self-reliance and she has to have plenty of gumption. Tabitha ticked all those boxes and more. She’s an amazingly tenacious woman with a beautiful heart, loyal to those she cares about and has a brilliant sense of humour. We’ve met the Roman general Valerius, in some of the previous books. However, I was never happy believing him to be the pompous and vicious, callous man he was portrayed as. Yes, Valerius is aristocratic and a formidable warrior. However I loved his loyalty and humanity and think he’s the perfect partner for Tabitha.
Seize the Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon is an exciting, but emotional read that had me misty-eyed on more than one occasion. Expect to feel sorrow, fear, indignation, apprehension, joy and passion when reading this story!
There are scenes of explicit sexual content and graphic violence in this book. Therefore, I’d only recommend it to adults who aren’t offended by scenes of this sort.
I’d recommend Seize the Night to adults who enjoy romance stories about the complexities of relationships, prejudice, and betrayal. And of course readers who crave adventures about insurmountable odds and soul saving love.
I’m already scouring ebay and second-hand book shops for the next books in this amazing series.
I can’t wait to see where Ms Kenyon takes us next!
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read my mini review.
Have you read Seize the Night? If not, I hope I’ve sparked your interest and that you add it to your every growing TBR piles. Or any of the Dark Hunter books! 😉
Bye for now,
