Hello Avid Readers. Today I’m sharing my thoughts about Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews. Book 2 in the highly popular urban/sci-fi fantasy series, Innkeeper Chronicles.

Last year, I decided that mini-reviews were the way forward for this particular book blogger. 😉 This means that I only write full detailed reviews for the books I receive from authors, publishers and PR organisers (ARCs). When I read a book that I’ve bought for myself, I share my thoughts within a paragraph or two that I publish on Amazon UK, Goodreads and here on my blog.

A Great Urban Fantasy Story That Edges Into Science Fiction.
This is the second book in Ilona Andrews’ Innkeeper Chronicles. In my opinion, it’s just as good as the first – if not better. Ilona Andrews is still a relatively new-to-me author but I really enjoyed this book. It was a great self contained story that also built on the previous book. While leaving enough mysteries unanswered and story threads dangling for subsequent books.
I loved the original premise that mythological beings such as werewolves, vampires and shape-shifter were not an evolution from humans but extra terrestrials from other planets. The idea of who and what the Inns and Innkeepers are is a refreshing change and believable within this fantasy world that this husband and wife team have created.
The writing style, depth of characters and story development made this a real page turner for me. I couldn’t put it down! To feel so involved with Dina & actually feel for a building (Gertrude Hunt, the Inn itself) just proves what talented authors Ilona and Gordon Andrews are. The supporting cast of characters were just as thought out. Therefore I’m looking forward to finding out more about them in subsequent books.
I absolutely loved this book, there wasn’t anything that I didn’t like. The story engaged me from the first page and the writing style was easy to read. The plot is well thought out with a good pace. It contained enough twists & turns to keep my love of a good mystery happy. The characters were complex souls revealing themselves at just the right moment. I’d recommend Sweep in Peace to fans of urban fantasy or Science fiction. If you enjoy stories with adventure and a horror/thriller story line then give it a try.
2019 Update:
Since originally reading this on my Kindle back in 2016, I’ve downloaded the narration by Renée Raudman. I really enjoyed her performance. She’s still a relatively new-to-me narrator but I liked the way she read the narrative. Putting different tonal variations into her voice while reading the emotional or dramatic scenes. I like the way she alters her voice when reading dialogue for the various characters. Ms Raudman’s narration enhances this story and transported me into the world. I wont hesitate to download stories narrated by her in the future.
Keep reading to find out more about Ilona Andrews and this series.
The Innkeeper Chronicles
Dina DeMille doesn’t run your typical Bed and Breakfast. Her inn is a living entity that defies laws of physics, her fluffy dog is secretly a monster, and the only paying guest is a former Galactic tyrant with a price on her head. This series is a blend of genres: urban fantasy and science fiction.
