Flora Reviews… Taken by a Dragon (Eternal Mates #7) by Felicity Heaton
Read: 31st March – 1st April 2015
Re-Read: 22nd – 24th December 2017
My Goodreads Rating: 5 Stars
So what’s this book about?
Taken by a Dragon is the seventh paranormal romance novel (approx 200 pages) in this series. This story is about human hunters and dragon shapeshifters. However, Ms Heaton has populated her world with a huge variety of other species too, including; elves, demons, vampires, witches and other shifters.
As my regular followers will know, I never post any spoilers or reveal plot twists in my reviews, so this is what the official blurb has to say about the story:
Possessed by a need to save a beautiful Amazon warrior from the vision he witnessed, Loke snatched her from the midst of the battle between the Third and Fifth realm of the demons, and carried her to his home deep in the black mountains of Hell to protect her. But as the fierce little female awakens, he finds she’s anything but grateful, and his dragon instincts roar to life to warn she might be more to him than an enemy—she might be his fated female.
Anais remembers meeting a handsome warrior in the heat of battle, a man who was her enemy but who looked at her with eyes that held dark heat and wicked promises. When she wakes to find that same dragon shifter has taken her captive, desire is the last thing on her mind, but escaping him to return to Archangel, the hunter organisation she works for, sounds less than appealing when he reveals the reason he took her—to stop her from dying.
Can Loke protect Anais from the dangers of his realm and how far will he go to save her from the future he keeps witnessing? Can Anais resist the fierce attraction that burns between them as hot as fire and stay true to Archangel or will her heart be taken by the dragon?
The Eternal Mates world is the same as Ms Heaton’s London Vampires series. There’ll be 15 books in the Eternal Mates series by the end of 2017. There are cross-over characters and the beginning to this storyline began in book 2 Claimed by a Demon King. Any relevant information, is found within this book therefore you don’t have to read the previous ones. The romance aspect in this tale is also concluded by the end of the book. Therefore, no nasty cliffhangers. Woohoo!
So, what did I like about it?
I am already a huge fan of Ms Heaton’s writing style (have I said that before? lol!); it’s the way she creates a very believable paranormal world and then fills it with complex, multifaceted characters and then weaves their stories with such depth that it just draws me in.
Taken by a Dragon is no exception, living up to my high expectations.
I enjoyed the dilemma aspect of this tale – following your heart or carrying out your duty – which Ms Heaton gives us here; both Loke and Anais fight the urge to be Fated Mates for various personal reasons.
Ms Heaton introduced us to a new realm in hell – the dragons’ – together with some new characters with intriguing stories of their own. I hope we’ll get to experience their adventures in future books; I am eager for a certain Black Dragon to get a book of his own and I’d love to find out more about Emelia & the Fourth Commander of the Echelon. *hint*hint* Ms Heaton! Some familiar faces make an appearance throughout this story, which I was thrilled about. This also evolved their journeys and added further plotlines to this riveting book.
Now let talk about sex.
As I’ve said before, one of the reasons why I love Ms Heaton’s books is how she makes the most explicit sexual scenes very romantic (I think that it takes a very talented writer to accomplish this). The erotic liaisons are balanced with beautifully written imagery and poignant internal dialogue from Anais and Loke. The tender insights into their inner fears and emotional confusion throughout this book was heart-warming to read.
I’ve got to be honest and confess that I shed quite a few tears during this book. However, fear not dear reader, it’s not a complete blubberfest. I experienced so many emotions as I read this incredible story; the fighting and action scenes fed my adrenaline fix and the passionate sexy scenes kept the anticipation and titillation high. Taken by a Dragon had me gripped and I couldn’t stop reading!
Was there anything I disliked about it?
Not a thing.
…So, basically what I’m saying is…
I’m breathless – what a ride! There wasn’t a single page that didn’t engage me in this fantastic adventure! It’s got everything that I’m looking for in a 5 star book; action, humour, romance, tension, passion and plenty of well written steamy sex scenes. I loved it.
There are scenes of explicit sexual content and graphic violence in this book. Therefore, I’d only recommend it to adults who aren’t offended by scenes of this sort.
I’d recommend Taken by a Dragon to adults who love relationship and romance stories with oodles of fire and passion. 😉
