Format: Kindle

My Goodreads Rating:  5 Stars

Publication date: 5th August 2017

…So what’s this book about?

Tamed by a Tiger is the thirteenth paranormal romance novel in Ms Heaton’s Eternal Mates series. There will be 15 books in the series by the end of 2017. This story is about powerful cat shapeshifters.

The Eternal Mates world is the same as Ms Heaton’s London Vampires series. Many of the characters found at the Vampire theatre make an appearance in this book. Ms Heaton weaves any relevant information into this story. However, I’d like to point out that as with most books within a well established series, you may miss things. For example, the nuances of experiencing past relationships and adventures when reading Tamed by a Tiger as a standalone story.

I focus my reviews on how the story was told rather than the plot itself. I’m looking at the author’s writing style, how they paced their plots and how well they constructed their characters and setting. Therefore, my reviews don’t contain spoilers or reveal plot twists.

Here’s what the official blurb has to say about the story.

A snow leopard shifter in the prime of his life, the last thing on August’s mind is tying himself to one female. He welcomes a different one to his bed each night, or at least he had until five months ago when he became alpha. The duties and pressures of running his pride have his libido dead on arrival—until a trip to London to discuss business with the former alpha lands him in the path of a beautiful, bewitching tigress who awakens a passion in him that flares white hot and a need of her that consumes his every moment.

Promised at birth to a male she has never met, Maya has left her pride behind to go to the tiger alpha who is to be her mate, but she can’t leave without saying goodbye to her older brother, Talon. A stop in London at Underworld to see him one last time turns out far different, and far more dangerous, than how she had imagined it when she sets eyes on an alluring crimson-haired stranger who stirs new, unbidden feelings in her, desires that rouse her fiercest and most frightening instincts and demand she stake a claim on him—her fated mate.

Will Maya be strong enough to place her pride and her family’s safety before the desires of her own heart? And will August unravel his feelings for the black-haired beauty before it’s too late and he loses her forever?

As with all the books in this series, the romance aspect of this tale is concluded by the end of the book in Ms Heaton’s signature HEA style meaning that Tamed by a Tiger can be read as a standalone story. Yes, there are cameos and references to past adventures but any relevant information is weaved expertly into the plot. Having said that, I do feel that as with most long standing series, you may miss the nuances of experiencing past relationships, plot lines and characters when jumping in cold or reading books out of order.

I was given an unedited digital version of this book (eARC) for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not influence or affect this review. This is my candid opinion about the writing style and story.

…So, what did I like about it?

As I have said before, I am a fan of Ms Heaton’s writing style. I find her books very easy to read, the worlds she creates are interesting, the journeys she takes us on are well thought out and the characters she introduces us to are all complex beings that quickly become real in our imaginations and hearts! Tamed by a Tiger didn’t disappoint!

In this story, the traditions, hierarchy and expectations of the various cat shifter communities played a big role and I enjoyed the way Ms Heaton dealt with this. August and Maya both have responsibilities that are in conflict with their feelings for each other and I couldn’t stop reading, I was engrossed in the Romeo&Juliet-esque tale.

Ok, it can’t be a review about Ms Heaton’s work without mentioning sex.

For me, a story is only really erotic if I’m emotionally connected to the characters involved, Ms Heaton gives her characters such depth that they do become real while managing to make the most explicit sex scenes very romantic. But this attention to detail is not just given to her main characters; I find all of her characters complex, multifaceted and completely believable due to their very real human virtues and foibles even though they’re mythical, paranormal beings.

Throughout this novella, I found myself giggling, gasping in shock and shedding a tear or two.  Oh, and I definitely got caught up with the passion (who wouldn’t *blush*). However, as I said before, the inner dialogue of both August and Maya is beautiful. Especially, when they voice their conflicting feelings and admit the growth of their trust and love for each other.

…So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?

Absolutely nothing!

…So, basically what I’m saying is…

I really loved this paranormal romance tale. It was a great read that made me smile, cry and feel all warm and fuzzy inside. There are well written erotic sizzles, edge-of-your-seat fight scenes and heaps of romantic gestures.

Content Warning:

There are scenes of explicit sexual content and graphic violence in this book. Therefore, I’d only recommend it to adults who aren’t offended by scenes of this sort.

I’d recommend Tamed by a Tiger to those adults who enjoy reading stories about the lengths we go for our families. Books that celebrate inner strength and of course, soul saving love. *sappysigh*
