Sharing The Book Blogger Love ~ Libraries

Hello Fellow Book-a-holics,

As you may know I love reading. 😉 I follow lots of wonderful bloggers who actually post more than just book reviews – holds her head in shame – and today, I’d like to share an amazing post from fellow blogger Sarah @ The Critiquing Chemist

Detroit Public Library-Detroit, Michigan

Over this past week I celebrated my.. shhh… 33rd birthday. I love birthdays just as much now as when I was younger. To celebrate Luke and I had a date day in Detroit where we went to the historic Eastern Market, the Detroit Institute of Art, and last but not least the the stunning Main Branch of the Detroit Public Library. Outside, Michigan was experiencing a toasty, summery 83°F. However, due to the air conditioning being broken within in the library, it was a humid, glistening 88°F. Having first found photos of this delightful library when I was compiling my 150 most beautiful libraries in the world I was excited to finally see it in person, however upon walking into the library it was not at all what I was anticipated with wall to wall marble. That being said, upon making our way to the second floor we found the soaring, ornate ceilings and details that we’d initially been expecting. Enjoy our photos below and anyone who loves libraries should add the Main Branch of the Detroit Public Library to their ever growing list.

We loved our time exploring, especially finding the jewelry box that used to be one of the Romanov’s in the Burton Historical Collection.

Toward the end of our wandering we came across a picture of the Old Main Branch that was opened in 1877 and closed/demolished in 1931. I highly recommend that you follow the link below to see photos of this stunning library. I wish that it had been preserved for the ages!

So there you have it, dear followers. Aren’t they wonderful pictures! I always had this image of Detroit in my mind as an industrial, grey city but it warms my heart that architecture of this kind can be found there.

I love reading Sarah’s blog and hope that you take the time to pop over there and read a few of her posts too.

Enjoy the rest of your day,

Flora x

I'm in my late forties, my interests are varied but since menopause hit a few years ago, I find myself becoming a "grumpy old woman" all too frequently - where has my infinite patience gone!?! Lol!
I bought a Kindle in the summer of 2013 and haven't stopped reading since. If you want to know more about me, check out my blog - www.florasmusings.com
