My #Blogtober a.k.a. 🎃 31 Days of Halloween 🎃

Hello, my spooktacular lovelies. As an audiobook blogger who’s passionate about paranormal romance, cosy paranormal mystery and urban fantasy, most of my reviews fit perfectly with this time of year. However, I’ve joined in with #Blogtober this year which is a daily blogging challenge. This means that I’m trying to mix it up with some suitably Halloween-y book tags, memes and discussion posts too this month.

I haven’t ever tried to post every day before but I’ll do my best to keep it interesting.

Welcome to day 28 of 🎃 31 Days of Halloween 🎃 my version of #Blogtober. When we think of Halloween, our thoughts immediately jump to those monsters that hide in the dark. Luckily, Robin @ Paperbacks and Planners came to my rescue again: The Halloween Creatures Book Tag.

As you know, I stick to the cosy side of scary. However, my archives are full of witches, vampires, demons and the like. Therefore, I’m going to take this tag more literally than Robin did.

So, here are my 13 recommendations based on the actual Halloween creatures! They’re all my favourites and many I’ve read more than once. 😘

1. WITCH — a magical character or book

The Amanda Cadabra Cozy Paranormal Mysteries Series

This is a quintessentially English cosy paranormal mystery series.

Our heroine, Amanda, is a village witch in the fictional village of Sunken Madley. In each book, Amanda has various things to deal with, from solving age-old mysteries, to helping catch a killer and unlocking the secrets to her family’s mysterious deaths. All the while keeping her magic a secret from her friends and Villagers.

3. FRANKENSTEIN — a book that truly shocked you

I recently downloaded Frankenstein as part of a Monsters anthology, but haven’t listened to it yet. Therefore, I’ve tweaked this one to mean a “man-made monster.”

Project Rebellion by Mina Carter

Monsters do exist…and they’re the good guys.

A cadre of angel warriors on both sides are pulled into a deadly game between the two powers that rule, and the fate of our world rests in their hands and those of the powerful women who capture their hearts.

5. GRIM REAPER — a character that never should have died

Soul Eater Series by Pippa DaCosta

Kicked out of the underworld and cursed to walk this earth for all eternity, Ace Dante finds solace in helping others avoid the wrath of the gods.

The Soul Eater series sits well and truly in the urban fantasy genre. The books are not stand-alone reads and should be read in order. Each book has its own completed story arc, however, the main story/mystery is built on through each successive book. Pippa expertly weaves everything together, with each book providing answers, along with teasing us with new puzzles to solve.

6. ZOMBIE — a book that made you “hungry” for more

Independent Necromancers’ Bureau By Victoria DeLuis

A Cat, a Ghost, and a Zombie walk into the room…

Cassie Dune is an agent of the Independent Necromancers’ Bureau and the most powerful necromancer in the Northern Hemisphere. She lives in a world of myth and magic, where ghosts pop over to cook her breakfast, and zombies terrify the living.

In a world where rogue necromancers control the dead and turn them against the living, The Independent Necromancers’ Bureau works to keep law and order.

7. GARGOYLE — a character that you would protect at all cost

Although I haven’t got a series about gargoyle shifters (yet) in my archives, Kristen Painter’s Nocturne Falls series is a wonderfully light paranormal series featuring lots of Halloween creatures. I really enjoyed this one. ⬇

8. VAMPIRE — a book that sucked the life out of you

9. GHOST — a book that still haunts you

Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries

The Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries sits comfortably in the ‘cozy mystery’ genre. Although, some of the ghostly scenes feel less than cosy. 😉 This murder mystery series is set in modern America – Sugarland, Tennessee to be exact – and features the town’s residents, both living and deceased. Each book contains a new self-contained mystery for our heroine, Verity, to solve.

10. DEMON — a book that really scared you

The Demon Series

This series is a collection of seven novellas that follow Jassassah the Demon – a demon of the fourth circle of Hell – on her misadventures to corrupt, influence and misguide the humans she meets thus scoring her hellish points. Jassassah’s goal is to earn promotions through the circles of Hell until she reaches the heights she feels she deserves.

As these books are novellas, it doesn’t take much time to read them. Click to read my reviews or buy the books yourself.

11. SKELETON — a character you have a bone to pick with

This one really stumped me. I don’t have any skeleton main characters in my archives. Has such a story been written? Therefore, I’m cheating and choosing my favourite skeleton of all time – Jack Skellington. 💀

12. MUMMY — a book you would preserve throughout time

Forty is Fabulous by Heloise Hull

A new Paranormal Women’s Fiction adventure for those who believe that finding your true self late in life is a blessing, not a curse—even if it turns out you may actually be cursed.

Forty Is Fabulous is a completed four-book series. The series follows Ava Falcetti while she makes her way through the trials and celebrations of her new midlife adventure.

Books in the Series

  • Making Midlife Magic (Forty is Fabulous #1) (2020)

13. CREEPY DOLL — a cover too scary to look at

Leveling Up by K. F. Breene

Books in the Series

Click on the book title to read my review.

I’ve mentioned that one of the ways Ivy House protects itself is by an army of those porcelain faced dolls? They’re vicious and handy with knives. *shiver*

And on that rather creepy note, we’re done.

I’d love to see your answer for the Halloween Creatures Book Tag! So if you’re reading this, consider yourself tagged.

I hope all of you have a spooky and Happy Halloween!

Let the Halloween season commence!

Yes, it was Wendy, although I took it as a more literal tag.
