Ava has always been different. Born with strong telepathic abilities, she lives a very isolated life until she is offered a job with an obscure network that aids powerful Immortal Guardians in their quest to protect humanity from the psychotic vampires who prey upon them. Suddenly, she doesn't feel so different. For the first time in her life, Ava has found a place where she belongs. She's happy. Life is good. And when her employers invite her to join a group of other gifted ones and a handful of Immortal Guardians on a journey to another planet, it becomes absolutely fantastic.
In no time at all, she is speeding across the galaxy aboard a Lasaran warship manned by two amazing alien races. It's the dream of a lifetime... until a vicious attack by a mutual enemy of Lasara and Earth lands her alone in an escape pod with no habitable planet in sight and only one ship within range: one that carries the enemy who wants to know why the bioengineered virus they released on Earth long ago didn't exterminate humanity and leave the planet ripe for their claiming.
Jak'ri doesn't know how long he has been a prisoner aboard the Cebaun, but he fears the enemy's twisted experiments will soon lead them to a virus that will eradicate the Purveli people. Despair grips him until a female from Earth is taken captive and reaches out to him telepathically. The gift that Ava said caused her such misery in the past soon becomes his salvation as the two of them form a fast friendship. Determined to distract each other from the horrors of their existence, they immerse themselves in telepathic communion during the day, then seek solace and adventure together in shared dreams. As their friendship deepens into love, the two hatch a daring plot to escape their captors. But the enemy will not let them go without a fight.
Can Ava and Jak'ri stand against so many and emerge victorious?
Contains mature themes.

What did I think about it?

Another Incredible Adventure In This Sci-fi Romance Series!
I’m already a big fan of Dianne Duvall’s books but sci-fi is not my usual reading genre. However, I love Dianne’s writing style, the language she uses and the way she paces her plots.
I was drawn into this story and remained hooked throughout.
We’d been made aware of our romantic couple, Ava and Jak’ri, in the previous story The Segonian. However, this story can be experienced as a standalone. Although you’ll be missing some great adventures if you don’t get The Lasaran (Book 1) and The Segonian (Book 2). 😘 Ava is human but her emotional strength blew me away. Ava displayed all the traits that I need a protagonist to have: resilience, intelligence and gumption. Plus she had me smiling and laughing on numerous occasions. Jak’ri was also a protagonist that ticked all my boxes. The compassionate, heroic Purvelian had my heart fluttering from the first moment we met him. I also loved the banter between Jak’ri and his brother Zev’ri. The brothers used humour against the pain and adversity, and I loved that they used this tactic to try to take Ava’s mind off of her own awful situation.
Both main and supporting characters are written with a range of personalities without being stereotypical.
What makes characters believable, are their traits. Even when reading fantasy and science fiction, I need to recognise human psychologies to build that emotional connection. The Purveli introduces us to a whole host of other characters and alien races. Don’t get me started on the Gathendians. Grrr! 🤬However, be they, hero or villain, each one was written with credibility – Dianne made me never doubt they were real.
Kirsten Potter narrated this story as she has for Dianne’s other books.
Kirsten’s performance was excellent; easily transporting me into each and every scene. She managed to convey just what the story needed when it was needed. Not only with adding emotion and tension to her performance while reading the narrative. But Kirsten also skillfully used her voice to create discernible character voices for the dialogue. Kirsten is one of the best narrators that I’ve heard.
I devoured The Purveli.
I loved everything about this story. It was a real strain to take my buds out and stop listening when life demanded my attention. 😘 We get a sneak preview of the next space adventure in the series. I can’t wait to pull back the layers of a certain space pirate.
Keep reading to find out more about Dianne Duvall and Kirsten Potter. But first, here’s some information about this stellar series.
