Tis The Season For All Things Dark and Scary ~ Friday Finds plus Book Blogger Hop

Hello Avid Readers,

Have a frightening Friday Comments

Today is Friday so it’s time for another Friday Finds post. I have found some great reviews around the blogosphere that I want to share with you this week that have a bit of a theme – can you guess what these reviews have in common? 😉

I’m enjoying being part of the weekly  Book Blogger Hop meme too, hosted by Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addict, so I’m doing it again today and my answer to this week’s question is at the bottom of this post.

If you are one of my lovely new followers let me just take a moment to explain what my Friday Finds posts are all about. I like to read, my favourite genre is paranormal romance but I’ve also been known to curl up with the odd urban fantasy or paranormal cozy mystery too. But it’s a big wide literary world out there and I decided back in January that you, my dear followers, might be interested in the reviews about books from other genres to help you find your next favourite book. Ta!Da! My weekly Friday Finds post was born.

Yup, this week, all the books that my fellow bloggers have been reviewing seem perfect Halloween Reads. Enjoy the chills… (in no particular order).

The Shape of Night by Tess Gerritsen from The Bookish Libra

Suzanne is a proofreader by day, book blogger by night and a devourer of books 24/7. She loves reading most genres; contemporary and historical, adult and YA, and has confessed to also enjoying more and more fantasy lately. Her hobbies include: buying and hoarding of books, rambling about books to anyone who will listen and trying to recommend books to her family and friends.

The Cipher and Bad Brains by Kathe Koja from Nocturnal Revelries

As I’ve said before, I always make the time to read the articles from this blog because even if I’d never actually read the books he talks about (most of the time), I love his irreverent reviewing style and honesty. He really does find some obscure titles to review.

Dark Age by Pierce Brown from Caffeinated Reviewer

Kimberly is a self proclaimed audiobook junkie, avid reader and coffee drinker. She doesn’t limit herself to just reading one genre but reads books from young adult to hot and steamy romances with a healthy love of a good horror or Zombie book. Kimberly admits that “Dark Age by Pierce Brown the fifth book in the Red Rising series was one that I savoured. Dark, brutal and a beast of a tale no one is safe least of all you.”

And my final review this week is from a book blogger that I’ve just recently started following…

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir from The Writerly Way

Sammie thinks of herself as a creator—of worlds, people, and sometimes bad ideas. When she’s not doing those things, she says she’s preventing her husband and offspring from destroying the planet and everyone in it. Sammie is a great book blogger; her personality shines through and I love her energetic posts and book reviews. Sammie admits that “Sci-fi is usually something I avoid, but I’m glad I gave in for this one, because I ended up loving it.”

So, that’s my picks for this week. I hope you find a moment or two to click at least one of these reviews yourself – who knows you may just find your next favourite author!

Now on to the Book Blogger Hop meme which is hosted by Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addict. A question is posted each week, you answer the question and visit others blogs to see what their answers are. Easy!

So this week’s question is:

What’s your favourite horror book-to-movie adaptation?

(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I’ve got to admit that although I used to love reading horror in my teens – Stephen King, James Herbert and John Saul – and watching horror films, as a woman in my late 40’s I’ve become a huge wimp! I did just recently read Neil Gaiman’s Coraline which I really enjoyed. The stop-motion film is one of my favourites to watch at this time of year.

So, what about you? Do you even read horror or are you like me? As usual leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read this post. I hope you have a good weekend, enjoy any Halloween related festivities and manage to read (or listen to) a great story.

Happy Reading!

I'm in my late forties, my interests are varied but since menopause hit a few years ago, I find myself becoming a "grumpy old woman" all too frequently - where has my infinite patience gone!?! Lol!
I bought a Kindle in the summer of 2013 and haven't stopped reading since. If you want to know more about me, check out my blog -
