“I didn’t earn the name Godkiller, but in three days I’ll own it.”
Witches are disappearing all over New York and Ace Dante couldn’t care less. Until one holds his friend at gunpoint, demanding Ace take the job.
The witch produces a girl's severed arm, bearing an unusual hieroglyph, and Ace starts to care a whole lot more. He recognizes that mark. It’s connected to Ace in ways he doesn’t yet understand. Why is it on a dead witch’s arm?
Missing witches and severed arms aren’t Ace’s only problems. With a new name around his neck—Godkiller—Ace has a promise to uphold. He has three days to kill the god, Thoth. Or risk Osiris’s wrath. The last time Ace defied Osiris, he earned a curse that crippled his life and turned him into Osiris’s puppet for eternity.
This time, Osiris won’t be as lenient. Ace must kill Thoth. An impossible task. It takes a god to kill a god, and Ace is just a washed-up mercenary. Isn’t he?
As the spells are cast and the truth is revealed, there’s only one way out. Ace must become the monster the gods fear him to be.
The Soul Eater has a new name, and now, nobody is safe.

What did I think about Witches’ Bane?
Manipulation, Murder, and Magic – It’s Gripping Stuff!
I’m already a fan of Pippa DaCosta’s books. You can find lots of her stories in my review archives. Pippa’s writing style is intelligent, engaging and very easy to get into. I like how she paces her plots and the balance of tension, mystery and action she uses. Plus, there’s always a good sprinkling of humour in her stories to even out the darkness.
Paul Woodson’s performance was really engaging.
The pace at which Paul read Witches’ Bane was just right. The tonal variations he used during different scenes brought out the emotions. While the voices that he created for each character perfectly matched their personalities and made scenes of dialogue very easy to follow. I’d definitely buy books narrated by him in the future.
Witches’ Bane has some darker and upsetting scenes.
Although I didn’t blubber like a baby, a few of the more poignant, emotional scenes did cause the odd tear to trickle down my cheek. What I
hated liked about this book, was the fact that I was never quite sure how things would end. The tension built dramatically. My blood boiled with frustration at the injustice and prejudice of the Egyptian gods inhabiting our world. But I loved that I was kept guessing, never knowing which character would make it to the next book. Yes, Pippa is THAT kind of author! Lol!
But it’s not all doom and gloom.
There’s sarcastic humour and well-written banter in this adventure that kept bringing out my smiles. Plus, Pippa gave us beautiful glimmers of humanity that warmed my old heart. It’s a sign of quality writing and character connection when an author can make me feel and get so caught up in the story.
Witches’ Bane is only the second book in a six-book series. Therefore, I expected to have some questions left unanswered. However, fear not, dear reader, there’s no life or death cliffhanger at the end of this book! WooHoo! Brownie points to you, Pippa! 😉
This book has graphic violence and explicit sex as well as some darker themes. Therefore, I’d only recommend this book to adults who are OK reading material of this nature.
I’d recommend Witches’ Bane to adults who are fans of urban fantasy adventures. Especially those who love gritty storylines and lots of action.

Soul Eater Series by Pippa DaCosta
Kicked out of the underworld and cursed to walk this earth for all eternity, Ace Dante finds solace in helping others avoid the wrath of the gods.
The Soul Eater series sits well and truly in the urban fantasy genre. The books are not stand-alone reads and should be read in order. Each book has its own completed story arc, however, the main story/mystery is built on through each successive book. Pippa expertly weaves everything together, with each book providing answers, along with teasing us with new puzzles to solve.
